Super Jet What is the better start/stop switch? kawi or yami.

My 98 sj is giving me fits every time i go to the water. as soon as it gets wet or something the motor shuts off or has no spark while cranking or both or is totally dead. its apart right now with no looks of corrosion. It might be in the plugs in the engine bay possibly. But it will always work when I put it back together for a ride or so.

My switch has had issues, my friends sj kill button doesnt work, and his vxr lanyard kill needs held up with a zip tie. All 3 kawis of mine that were older than 91 mind you have had no issues, all my friends with 750s no issues, and the one sxr in the bunch also no issues.

I have found a new sj assembly for $120

and a kawi for $280 yikes!

has anyone put a kawi switch on a superjet? lanyard is a must.

Just put a kawi switch on a buddies ski. I too have had issues with Yami start stops. Never had a issue with a Kawi one. His was from a 650sx, but hes looking for a 750sxi one I guess because they have the lanyard faceplate, which around here is pretty much mandatory

Yamaha! I've had a couple break on my sxi and seen a lot of other kawi switches break.

Never had any of my old kawi switches go and have a few friends with kawis and no problems for them either. I have gone through one switch since owning my SJ and the extra one that came with the ski when I bought it was junk too. I was thinking of putting a kawi switch on but the are so ugly. Jetmaniac has used yamaha s/s/s instock usually.

I have a 650sx/x2 start/stop with a TS face plate (so it has a lanyard) and a 2004 SJ with the stock switch. I like the yamaha set up better.

My kawi switch still works with the lanyard pulled, just inturrupts spark. That's dumb. The yamaha disables the stater.

For a close comparison in reliability, half the price and a much better design, Yamaha wins.

had my 01 kawi sxipro run away from me like a slow moving torpedo across the lake when the tether kill switch failed. replaced with a newer kawi designed switch. it was a totally redesigned switch.

Yami, plus as OCD posted a little while back you can buy just the switch guts and wires for around $60.

Send your failing Yami switches to John at JSS. Better than new.

do you grease your connects in the hull? those can corrode and go to hell. Saw it with a buddies ski at pismo. if you fill them with grease it helps reduce that.

something to look into.

I run Kawi switches and change the connectors to the GM/weather-tite type and haven't had a problem since.

With a kawi switch if you come off the ski at the wrong angle it will break the whole front of the switch off. The lanyard won't let loose so it pulls the whole face of the switch off. This happened to me several times. Now I have a Yami switch. No problems yet.

The failure mode of watercraft switches usually starts with a tear in the rubber boot. From there the connections either corrode or the springs go. The Yamaha switch is difficult to fix because the internal springs and connections are very small. Kawasaki switches have much larger components so it is easy to clean and reassemble with a good boot. For a while I could get new tigershark switches for $30, they were the same as Kawasakis.
