What Impeller for Stock Pump with 61x Engine and B-Pipe?

I am installing a Factory Limited B-Pipe on my 1995 FX-1 with the single carb oem SBN 44 carb and stock 61x engine with the oem head. And currently a MSD enhancer, but may move to a Zeel charging CDI in the future.

The pump and the aluminum impeller are likely stock.

Do you recommend that I change the impeller?

And if so, to what impeller?

Low end grunt is what I am looking for.

Looks like oem stock aluminum to me:

I would save the pipe for something with a 144 pump. Definitely find a stainless impeller, none will load a piped 701 at low speeds. The FX1 has a 440 pump.

Exactly, Its what I’ve have told him for years.

The only props available for the stock FX were Solas 17/23, 18/24, 19/25 and a 21/26 you could special order. I ran all 3 of the readily available props at the time and with that 122 pump, there’s no difference in performance, they all suck, that pump is just too small. The only performance change we ever saw with that pump was when one of the guys extended the blades by welding extending the trailing edge right up to the stator. Unfortunately that prop/stator was taken out by the first shell to go thru the pump.

what ever prop you put in it. Make sure you have a heap of kick on the blades, it made the huge difference to my one

ADD , ADHD , DAMNIFIKNOW , I need to know right now and don't know how to do a Google search ?

But on an unrelated note does anyone have a jetting recommendation for a SBN44 carb on a 432 Wetjet motor with a Micky moused Kawi 650 pipe , I am asking for a friend.

I have run a Solas 18/24 and 19/24 in my factory pipe fx1. I preferred the 19/24, I like a taller prop. My fx1 rips with the stock pump. I will never ruin my fx1 with a 144 pump. Each to thier own.

If I put a Tigershark motor in my Superjet can I run a B pipe and a Hooker 10/16 , it already has a 46 Mikuni carb , what about water routing , dual cooling or single , can I run the Yamaha pump or do I need one from a Seadoo , 140 mm or 155 ?

Agreed. My Fx is mildly modified to the limits of what the pump can put out
I have a few of Dave’s at Impros props tweaked for me. This ski rips too

@waxhead My boss at my part-time Winter job is an Aussie and generally I understand him, however, I'm up a gumtree on your last post. At the risk of being a Galah, would you kindly rephrase it in Yank-speak ?

Ha ha
When we talk about an impeller having “kick on the back”, they’re just talking about the way the trailing edge of the blades is shaped. Basically, the last bit of the blade is bent or “hooked” up slightly.

It works kind of like adding cup on an outboard prop. That little curl changes how the water exits the prop:

  • Gives the ski more bite/hook-up so it doesn’t slip as much.
  • Can help with holeshot and mid-range pull.
  • Sometimes gives a touch more top-end efficiency, but it can also load the motor harder, so you might lose a few revs if the engine can’t pull it.
  • Depending on the hull/prop combo, it can also change how much lift you get out of the pump.
So it’s not a full pitch change, just a tweak at the trailing edge that makes the pump grip better.
