have to be? Hopefully nobody replies to this before I go measure the bed of my truck, but I have a short bed 2001 Dodge pickup (cummins powered) that I'm wanting to put 2 sj's in the back of. Anyone done somethign similar or could tell me what dimensions to make the bunks?

The bunks need to be 12" from center to center(of the boards/runners).

how wide is an SJ at the widest on the top? between the wheel wells I've got 50.5'' and it's 67'' wide in front of and behind those wheel wells. The max length I could put at the bed would be 77 long to still close the tailgate. Is that long enough or no? Closing the tailgate isnt really a problem if I cant do it no big deal.

Square nose SJ's are 27 inches wide ar their widest area(bondline). I assume Roundnose's are about the same since the basically use the same bottom hull. So figure that and give them a couple of inches inbetween.

Back when i had a regular chevy truck bed, we had to build it up over the wheel wells to get 2 Superjets in the back of a truck. You'll prolly have to build a riser..

There's got to be a more practical way to make one than I'm figuring... I would have to put the back of my truck 5 feet in the water to get bunks wet that sat on top of my wheelwells.

I've never moved an SJ, but I'm guessing it would slide easily onto a cart even from that high.

i had bunks made of 2x8 in the back of my f150 2 skis sat in perfectly w/tailgate down and id put my geat under them so it wouldnt fly out
but it was a pain in the ass to load after a hard day riding
would take 2-3 peepes i didnt go 5 feet into the water

you could use some kind of ramp winch combo to get them up and down.

That's what I was thinking, and I've been looking at beach cart setups and I dont think those size tires will clear the wheelwells to sit flush for driving.

is there a reason you dont want to just get a trailer?
I have a double trailer, full of couches right now, and another single trailer. I drew up a really simple holder to put in the back of my truck. I'm not interested in quadruple place trailer. Until I get my other skis figured out, I'm going to be pulling around the trailer + 2sj's. No matter how I drew it I couldnt get 4 skis on my double trailer, even if I took the tongue box off.

I can build this double SJ holder for less than $100, I think.

all you need is 4 8' 2x6 lumber for the bunks. a few pieces of 2x4 for cross braces and some carpet for the bunks.

could do it for less than $50 since you don't really need treated lumber.

Just throw the darn things in there and head out  Although I can understand if you want to keep them from sliding side to side (not much room for that though). Maybe build the bunks up so you can put stuff underneath.

Oh, and good thing you told us it was cummins powered or the information would have been all wrong :hail:

I just wanted to make sure you knew my excuse for buying a dodge. I'm going to go with the SJ cradle idea that my best friend in the whole world ''the penguin'' sent me. Thanks for the help, friends.:cheer:

Here's what I did.

Just got some scrap PT wood and leftover carpet.

I could get the ski in and out of the van by myself without getting the wheels wet.
Another bonus was that I had the ski in the van all week and when ever I came upon some nice water I would ride.:Banane01:
