What are the odds?

The first time I forget my Hydrapak with my pump, patch kit, water, tool, I have a flat, at work, on the trunk rack.

It just means I can't go hit the trails after work. I'm home now, but that just sucked. I went out to the car, grabbed my clothes and changed in the locker room and walked back out and just happened to walk around the back of the car after putting my stuff in the passenger seat and noticed the rear was flat, completely.

This is the first time I've ever forgotten my pack at home, and of course I needed it---I could have patched the tire and been done in 10 minutes. Our schedule is pretty busy during the week and that was the only chance I had to ride until probably Sunday.

Found the problem after I had another flat yesterday while riding---the rim tape had moved over and the spoke nipple hole edges were cutting the tubes.

I may go tubeless...

I converted mine tubeless after 2 pinch flats...2 weeks in a row. No complaints other then it does loose pressure slowly over time. If you check your tire pressure before every ride, its not a big deal and I have not had a flat in months.

I just went tubeless on the rear about 20 minutes ago. I did the Gorilla tape/homebrew sealant method and so far, so good. It seemed to be holding 40psi pretty well so I'll check it again when I go to bed and in the morning.

The only concern I have is the valve stem. I went with a Shrader out of a used tube but there is no real way to lock it to the rim like a Presta, though those are harder to get the sealant in unless you leave part of the bead loose---but I like to seat the beads with the compressor while the valve core is out.

Anyway, I may get some proper valve stems that screw on down the road if this works out.

For my first try, it went surprisingly well.

google ghetto tubeless. There are many different ways from UST tires/rims to Stans No-tubes to ghetto tubeless and the many variations on that (like c.a.t.s.)

Those are the stems I was talking about, though the valve stem is fine actually. My problem right now is the sidewalls have tons of tiny pinhole leaks, and I mean tiny. I don't think I got enough sealant in to really coat the walls so added more this morning and pumped back up. The good news is the bead is sealed really well along with the stem.
