Wetsuit advice wanted - Updated with pics

A higher quality suit is definatly warmer than a cheaper one. I have an Xcel 3/2 and a 4/3 and its incredibly warmer than my old pos slippery. Slipperys garbage as far as im concerned, plus i think theyre ugly.

Make sure you get a higher end model, with sealed seams and such...Iv worn my 4/3 on the coldest days iv seen in pismo and been perfectly fine while riding. Not really sure how that compares to where you ride but i thought it was damn cold out..

My votes for any high end surfing 4/3, sealed seams, sealed zippers. Try on a bunch of brands and find the one most comfortable for you.

I got my suit today.
The Ripcurl F-Bomb 4/3 BackZip.
Nice suit! A much better construction and craftsmanship than my Slippery Matrix suit.
Nicely stitched seams, superstretchy neoprene, nice seals everywhere.
It's just as flexible (if not more) as the 3/2 Matrix.
Fits me very nicely, too.
The kneepads are seem very robust.
The inside of the suit is partially lined with the same smooth material that rashguards are made of.
It also has this red fabric in there (Fireskin), supposed to wick water away from the body.

This thing retails for $389 from what I saw. I snagged this one on Ebay, brand-new, for $189 shipped.

Here's some pics.

I just want to reiterate how awesome this wetsuit is.
I have been riding in 36 degree water, with air temps anywhere from 32 to 45 degrees.
Today I actually got too warm. I had to float for a while to cool down a bit.
And I stay pretty much dry in this suit. It does extremely well at keeping water out.
Well worth every penny.
I will never again buy a cheap wetsuit.

good call on getting a quality suit...for the real cold day gets a hood thats attached to a rashguard type vest so you can take it on and off as you need while your in the water...you will be toasty although i must say you are a polar bear because most guys would be in 6/5/4s for 36deg water!!!

also one thing..when its wet dont hang in from a hanger to dry it..it stretches out the neck

For a hood: I've been wearing a tour coat with the hood pulled tight, and put a helmet over that.
Does great.
I rode for 2 hours yesterday without getting cold. I was as comfortable as riding in the summer.

About hanging: Should I just lay it flat somewhere while it is wet?

wetsuits are best left hanging to dry and to store. even good neoprene will compress if left folded for long periods.

you want a hanger with a wide area on top - similar to:

or:

the wide shoulders help open the suit and speed drying and prevent getting creases in the shoulders. For thicker suits, I recommend them.

Hmm. I've read that you shouldn't hang them from the shoulders when they're wet - they get stretched out due to the extra weight supposedly. I've read that you should hang them by the middle over a wide hanger.

That's what I've always done and our wetsuits have retained their shape fairly well and lasted a long time except for abuse spots.

Got it, thanks Andrew.

And thanks for turning me onto Ripcurl.
I can't believe I've ever wasted money on crap wetsuits.
