I was getting my Ski ready to hit the lake today, and when I pulled the hood to make sure the battery was hot and fill my tank. the hull had about 3 inches of water in it.

The last time I rode it was last weekend. since then it's been in the driveway uncovered. We have had some rain. so mu first thought is... no way did all this come in through a leaking hood liner. An I KNEW it was dry when I parked it. So I begin poking around looking for areas the water could have gotten in. And boy did I find it.:scared:

the aftermarket nose piece that was put on by the previous owner has broken loose under the hood seal. I'm not talking stress cracks here. I'm talkin flapping in the breeze, can stick your fingers through the space, coming loose. so no I have to remove the seal, and replace it, and fix the nose. Considering I DIDNT want to get this involved with this boat; I was just gonna ride it till I felt I was ready for a new one (which I'm not), I've now been given a green light to do what I WAS going to put off. Since this is gonna be a MAJOR fix. might as well do it right. I'm gonna add some foot holds, refoam, paint, and freshen up the top end. This is STILL gonna remain a low or no dough ski. but I might as well do the work since I'll have apart anyway.

This leads me to a related point. Poeple that have no idea what they are doing when it comes to lamination need to leave it the hell alone. this could have been serious as I tend to ride alone quite a bit and last weekend I was at least a half mile off shore on Lake Erie more than once. it DOES explain why my bilge was working over time all weekend.

anyone know where to get a decent set of holds that'll fit a 550 for cheap? or better yet any one can make me a cast of a set, and I'll take it from there.

At any rate... looks like I'm done for the season.:damnit:

alright... I got the seal off and gave it a look see. I think I can fix it quick fast and in a hurry. My suspicions er correct. they used, something, to bond it. it's not even glassed. The gap is natural. the 2 peices dont fit together tight so what ever the bonding agent was...it failed.

so, I'm thinking some kinda filler then glass it over top and bottom. I dont think clamping it together and trying to glass it closed is really the answer here. My thought is stress could cause it to just come apart again, or just break in adifferent area as it tries to return to it's natural shape.

suggestions?

pics would be helpful.
I'm on it with a vengence.

The nose is repaired.
I used SS rivets to pull the sections together then epoxied the seam. then I aplied several layers of 5oz woven cloth to the seam and surrounding areas. I also ripped out my old Jet trim mat while waiting on cureing. the new turf and pad is cut and the tray is prepped. I nixed the hold idea for the time being in favor of lifters. I'm not ready for holds yet.

I may shoot it tomorrow just for grins. it wont be the prettiest bell at the ball. but it'll get the job done.

I layed the first coat of paint.

I really didnt wannt returf it till I painted it.

tommorrow I smooth out the hood and paint it. and wet sand the hull and lay the second coat.

It isnt gonna be fancy. The G/F says it looks like a School bus now.

Im wondering when I turf the rails if I should go over or under the nose and hull braces. I'm open to suggestions.

What kind of riding do you do? If you are freestyling, you might want to reinforce the whole engine compartment while you're at it.

I'm just learning. the rest of the hull can wait till winter. I only get a few months to ride.
