Wear Ring Question

I have a 94-95 Superjet. I am going to replace the wear ring, and I was wondering if I can do that without removing the impeller. Also, is there any step by step instructions online on for replacing the wear ring? I am having trouble finding any. Thanks

Short version...

Remove the pump from the ski, 4 bolts. Remove 4 long bolts that hold pump together. Use flat screw driver to pry apart pump at wear ring. Impellor stays on driveshaft. Put on new wear ring. Bolt pump back together and reinstall.

I would add it is important to check alignment after removing the pump and the wear ring. Slide your engine forward and remove midshaft to double check alignment with pump installed and adjust as necessary to make sure driveshaft in centered through bulkhead. Re-install midshaft and slide motor back into position.

The op's post begs the question: why does he want or need to replace the wear ring/ impeller housing? The ss ring never really "wears", but can swell in places due to galvanic corrosion between the aluminum housing and the ss liner (that usually shows up as an oblong spot blue/ black in color). If that is the case, the impeller will have serious wear and require rewelding- needs to be removed for that.

I bought a 94 Superjet this summer with no previous experience. Ran great most of the summer, but now I am having an issue. For the most part it runs fine, but when it comes out of the water at all (even a small wake or wave), it stills revs ok or over revs since I'm not going anywhere, but loses power or stops accelerating and comes to an almost complete stop. The engine will still be running, and in a few seconds I can accelerate again. Basically it seems like water isn't flowing through properly. I did have some weeds underneath before this problem started, but I have turned it over and it looks all clear now. Sorry if this doesn't explain it well enough, but I am completely new to this. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

There is the thread. From that post I gathered either the wear ring or maybe the impeller might be the issue. Replacing the wear ring is less costly so I figured I would try that first.

Also, this isn't the stock impeller, but as far as I know that's the original wear ring.

I am having issues getting the WSM wear ring into the housing. I tried putting it in the freezer first, greasing it up and using a two by four and rubber mallet to try and force it in. We also tried sanding off a very small section around it to get it started. Does anyone have any other tricks or advice?
