Super Jet WDK Rev Foothold Install Help

I am sorry if this has been posted before but I need some help for my 2002 SJ. I have found a lot of threads where the exhaust tube gets in the way of the Rev footholds, so obviously I am not the only one who has run into this. What has been the best way to address this issue? I have seen some that cut the foothold around the exhaust tube but never with final install pictures. Does this significantly affect the toe room? How big of deal is it to remove and modify the exhaust tube? Is there a general concensus on how far back to mount the holds? Any help would be appreciated.

I just gave my exhaust tube a good size dent to fit the footholds in. I wouldnt advise on cutting the toe out to Fit them in cause thats Just another place for water to come in. I'm not sure how your foot holds are but I've had two sets and both sets have a weird curve on the inside bottom, It's alot easier to grind that off and make it as flush as you can in the tray.

i have installed alot of wdk foot holds ,, they are one of the biggest footholds,, there is enough toe room to cut a piece out of the toe of the foot hold to clear the pipe. dont forget to reglass the hole you cut out/ slightly denting the pipe helps aswell ,

as for placement , its your ski put them where they are comfortable for you

I was kind of leaning towards cutting the hold and then re-glassing it. The holds do seem to have plenty of room in the front. I am thinking of installing the holds so the curved part for my ankle is right at the top before it angles down towards the back of the ski. Do you think it would work to move it any farther back or is that about as far back I can go with how they are designed? Probably just take an air hammer and tap on the exhaust pipe a little bit. Thanks for the help.

Turns out trying to cut just the right shape for these holds is a pain in the butt. Anyone have any pictures of installing the enclosures for the holds? Do you glass everything in and then turf it, or turf the side and inside the hold and then glass in the enclosure somehow?

get all your glass work done and let it fully cure before turf
i prefer no seams , so i suggest making a paper template of the gunal and allow extra for the turf to fold into the foot hold , start on the outside( above the bondline) wrap over the top and slowly work the turf into the foothold , i always have extra that will need to be trimmed off after install. use heat. heat gun is best but a hair dryer may work . and another set of hands to keep pieces from sticking till you want them to ..

feel free to pm me ill give you my number if i can explain better over phone

ski-foothold.jpgAfter countless hours and a forgotten number of beers, I have the holds glassed in. I just have wait for it to dry before I install the enclosures... Luckily there is a lot of snow outside and I am not in a huge rush to get it done.

heeeyy nice job ,,, beer is your friend take your time on the turf... drink beer ,but not too much, you will think it looks good till you look at them again in the morning! you can install the turf in stages.... line up the outside( top of the gunall) heat ... fold the turf over the top..... heat.... work turf down towards the tray ... re heat ... working the turf into the footholds.....drink beer. take a deep breath... drink ... trim the excess ..
I like to do the sides and firewall first and the bottom of the tray last .and try to make the bottom piece bigger and cram turf into the joints. ( turf will shrink) and result in gaps in a year or so ..Drink

It might be another month or so until I get time to get the turf in. First I have to glass in the enclosures, which I am not too worried about. I ended up cutting the bottom of the right foothold to accomodate the exhaust pipe, and then just re-glassed it. My buddy and I got done working on it and then figured we should enjoy some more beer and admire our handywork. My wife got home after I got done with the fiberglass/resin and she was not pleased with how the house smelled (I am working in the basement)

I finally got the holds done and turfed! I lost track of how many hours and beers I had into it. I couldn't have done it without jjlambers help. The holds feel great, and the turf came out halfway alright. I am very excited to try them out and see how they feel when I am on the water.
