WB1 resto

Well, here we are again

Been a minute, have been enjoying the hell out of my square, loving every second of it and all the fun and cardio I get from it, but now it's time for another build. This time around, it will be a Waveblaster 1.

Wanted one for a while, or at least wanted to try riding one, just so happens my good buddy @Fx1/SJ AZ28 had a blaster hull he was looking to get rid of.

The hull is ugly and bare, but solid, needs a little fiberglass work but nothing crazy like my square, just gonna be a simple resto to bring it back to its former glory.

Stay tuned

So lots of "life" has happened in the 2 or so years since I restored my square, the main thing is I finally got myself a van. Been wanting one for while and was able to get me one within my budget and preferences (i.e. cheap/broken). Plan is to build me a simple moto van,/mobile mechanic rig to have all my tools and parts needed for w/e machine or adventure I'm out on.

So this build will be somewhat slow as the van will take priority and funds, but I am planning on having both done for next season.

Anywho, the day I picked up the WB1 hull.

As you can see, its ugly and needs the bond line repaired on the nose, but overall solid. Already sourced a clean and solid 701 with good compression out of a VXR PRO I snagged cheap off marketplace. I have a few 650s kicking around in various condition, I'm going to try and piece together a solid running motor and drop that back in the VXR to have as a back up/buddy ski, or will sell cheap to recoup a little cash.

VXR actually not in bad shape, someone rhino lined the top of the hull, and used rubber radiator hose to make bumper strips, a little hokey but they did do a solid job on it at least.

The kid I got it off of didn't seem too familiar with 2 strokes or skis in general, said it "it does run but smokes a lot". Looking at the water box and the cans of starting fluid I found in the storage compartments you can see someone attempted to get it running and learned the hard way what can happen to those fiberglass water boxes when they back fire

So thats it for now, but wanted to get a thread up as a place holder for this thing, and to motivate me to get after it. More to come!

PS: Also, I will be needing parts for this thing, mainly a seat, steering components, water box etc, rather get it off a fellow enthusiast and avoid the price gouging on ebay, so if anyones got a blaster they are parting or what not, hit me up!

Also, I am a big fan of future proofing and the "while I'm in there" mindset, is there anything with these WB1 hulls that need attention in terms of reinforcing etc while I have it stripped down? Kind of like de-foaming the tray, adding fiberglass to the bilge to strengthen it etc like what we do with the superjets. This thing is just going to be a play/back up flat water ski for me and my buds, my square is my main ski.

Only glass work I'm planning on doing atm is fixing that bond line and prob filling in the fuel/oil gauges and what not, as well as any other issues I run into, but would def love to hear if theres something I can improve on before I paint it.

Poked around the hull a bit this weekend in between these odd deluges of rain and humidity we've been having out here. Air is heavy and sticky so wasn't super motivated but figured id at least clean out the bilge of all the grease and what not. Come to find out, the bilge was half rattle canned, pressure washer took most of it off thankfully. Bilge actually cleaned up pretty good! Debating on if I will bilge coat it or not, prob will, as it seems like it was already half done, right side of the bilge is white while the rest is just glass or SMC etc.

Despite the ugliness of this hull its actually in better shape then my square was, that bilge was a total nightmare.

Also my buddy hooked me up with this trailer, exactly what I'm looking for! Plan is to go through it and clean it up, maybe flat deck it, we'll see. Right now it's gonna stay ugly as I'm going to do all the body and dirty work to the hull, final assembly will happen in my shop on my bike table probably, then I will go through the trailer.
