Hello,
I have a few 701 questions and this seems like the place to ask. I have
a stock 96 WB 1 twin carb 701. Its only making around 100 psi of
compression in each cyclinder. I decided not to mess with it this year as
I was more concerned with just getting a good feel for the ski and I might add i love it. By far the best freeride wave jumper sit down iv ever ridden. I have a 06 1300r that has alot of money in it and hasnt moved in months because of this little guy. Heres my questions, I obviously need at least
a top end, is it worth pulling the motor and going through it or am i wasting my time? It doesnt knock or have any weird rattles, kinda making me think
i may be able to get away w/ just a in-ski top end? any pump issues i need
to look at w/ this ski>? impeller and wear ring look very good and I was told they are only a year old. I dont want to spend big $$$ but i just would like a reliable snappy setup for Lake erie in all her bitchness.Top end speed doesnt matter i just want hole shot. Thanks guys for any help
ps;ski runs fine thats why im so hesitant

Welcome to the boards!:cheer::cheer::cheer:

I don't have the answer for you but I'm sure a few will chime in shortly. 100psi in both holes? Well either you have cheap gauge like we do, or you might be due to freshen up your top end. I believe stock is 145-150 psi.

would not hurt to check with different guage........ top end would not hurt, raise compression after rebuild either by milling the head or aftermarket, and look for a Factory Pipe for that ski......... that will give you a good running setup..... oh, and a worx grate.

150 psi is stock but you may have a bad guage. check your gpr and see if the numbers are right on it (I don't know what compression a GPR should have).

Check the compression with another gauge.
If it needs the top rebuilt I'd resleeve it and get a pipe and you'll be set for a long time.
That's what I did on the last one I did and think it's easer and better than boring the cylinders.

Why resleeve?? The 61x cyl is good up to 84mm and boring is a lot cheaper. If the compression is low on an accurate guage then take it apart and go through it. You might be able to just bore it .5 or 1mm and freshen up the top end. Since it is a 96 you might want to check the crank and put some new crank seals in there also. While you are at it, have the head milled to make 175psi, you will have to run 93 octane fuel but it will give it a lot more punch. The good thing is that it reads the same in both cyls. My guess is that your guage is crap. Find someone with a Snap On guage and get some real numbers. Oh yeah, welcome to the board..
