Waterproof the oem chinpad foam??

Went to take the oem chinpad cover off my RN a couple weeks ago, and found the foam underneath to STILL have water in it from last summer - wtf?

Anyway, before I put a new cover on I want to somehow waterproof the foam (its nice and dry now). :scratchchin:

I first wondered if there's any way to "paint' a rubberlike material on it, but then resigned to just putting a good layer of duct tape on it. But the duct tape gets bumpy in places, so now I am back to asking here if anyone knows of any kind of paintable (or otherwise) material than won't melt the foam but would dry and still be pliable? I don't want to get a 'heavy chinpad' again...

not sure if its worth the effort really...that thing is gonna be quite hard to water "proof", especially when considering subs, stabs, and wipeouts...also keep in mind that if its hard for the water to get, when it eventually does it will be that much harder to get it out...

that being said ... for boat cushions i have seen them wrap the foam in heavy plastic and run a good bead of hot glue where it folds over to make it as watertight as possible, the vinyl is then stretched over the plastic and stapled in place...these cushions are not intended to be submerged though

Even if you plasti-dip the foam, when you staple the cover on it will puncture it. I wouldn't waste too much time making it waterproof. I'd put a drain hole near the lowest point of the base, so that water can work it's way out during storage.

Take turf underpad and layer it up until you get the right thickness as stock, then sand and shape to look like oem, works awsome.

I used some under pad on mine with turf on top. Its still bone dry after 2 seasons.
