waterproof earplug?

Anyone have any experience with a reliable waterproof earplug that can standup to surf riding on a standup? I ruptured my eardrum last week and it's not healing, the ENT thinks I need surgery to repair it so he's refered me to a specialist but i'm not scheduled to see him until feb14th but I want to ride!!!!!! The doc said NOT to get it wet in the shower and definitly NOT to go swimming as there is a hole in my ear and the risk of infection is very high. Did I mention I WANT TO RIDE!! !#%#@#!@@@#$!~!!##

You might be safe with an earplug, but then again you might get an infection. The shower isnt too big a deal, but with a hole in my ear, I wouldnt want to go swimming in the ocean, creek, wherever, because thats definitely not 'clean' water there, it may put you out even longer.

Take apart your ski so you wont be tempted

You could always shave your head, and then ducktape a plastic baggie over your ear.... But shaving would be a must to insure that you get a good bond to your noggin. Then I would put in some type of cloth or something to grab any water that might make it past the ducktape... Maybe packaging tape would be better?? Then you could go with clear, and a clear baggie and no one could tell your've got your old sandwich bag strapped to your head...

However, chrome always looks good, and isn't a grill in your mouth suposta be in style right now? Maybe you can start a new trend, the chrome dome..

I'd be careful about extended use of any earplug. I heard/read something that the earbud style headphones increase bacteria in your ear by 400%. I'd imagine that earplugs are similar and that wouldn't be good since you have a hole in your head.

......I used drying (alcohol?) drops immediately afterwards. I won't do that again... :nono:

I bet you were thinking that was the dumbest thing you ever did....

I was on the floor rolling around for a while after I did that.........Just thinking about it makes my ear hurt:bigeyes:

Think I'll pass on the alcohol trick. Atleast in the ear. Works alot better when you drink it! FYI, if an ENT says "this is going to hurt a little" he really means this is gonna hurt like Mot#!#!@Fu3$@#$er!!! Apparently, where the drum tore it rolled over and is growing inward towards itself, so he "asperated"(sp) it (JAMMED A NEEDLE INTO IT) to suck some crap out. And now they are going to have to cut out the part thats growing inward and patch the two ends together somehow. Can't F-in wait! Should be awesome fun!!:woot:

huh?

Actually, they did a hearing test before they jammed the needle in my ear and said my hearing was better in the ruptured ear than the other ear. Now I have a constant reminder that I'm alive as everytime my heart beats I hear it loud and clear.

On second thought, he might have said I should have another beer. Who am I to argu with a doc.

Have not ruled it out. I just sold my bike and am actively looking for a new SJ. If I find one before my surgery you may get your picture.:sneaky:
