Waterdawg steering setup Help!

I bought a used waterdawg setup. I am having problems with the bearing setup. I have it installed right, a ton of grease (marine grease, valvoline I believe) around the bearings, washers, and O-rings, and I have it barely tightened down, still even a little side to side play (which is what I wanted to get rid of), and it is stiffer than my stock (by a lot) to turn.

Tomorrow, I plan to tear it down, rebuild, soak it all in gas minus O-rings:twak:, and then grease it back up with some bearing grease that I bought at the bike shop, parks grease (worked well on my bikes back in the day).

Any other ideas, or anyone else run into this problem?

Positive note, the steering setup definitely lowered my reach at least 2" from my stock 0 degree bar setup.

Thanks,

Chad

I'm not sure what your asking, but its the same with or without the chin pad on, if you want to see what it looks like with the pad, I can snap a few pics.

I thought that as well, but it is the same with and without the steering cable attached, and I sprayed some lubricant on the cable for the hell of it.

The problem you are having is probably because of too much grease, and the wrong kind. Some grease can be very sticky, and if you put too much in there it will make the steering feel very stiff. Try to clean up the parts with gasoline, like you mentioned. Then go to NAPA and get some grease like Sil-Glide or something similar, a silicone grease, and lightly coat the parts. Reassemble and everything should be fine. If you have any questions you can reach me @ jcurry@waterdawgkustomz.com or 541-231-6069.

I was using a lock washer and a lock nut and mine was stiff. Take the lock washer off if you are using one and only use a lock nut. This made mine a lot smoother.
