Super Jet Waterbox question

[SX-R 800 Ripper]

I had a rattle in my waterbox... I ended up getting 2 metal tubes out of it roughly 4 inches long and 1 in ch in diameter
Can I use my water box without having those tubes in?
What will be different if I did run it with no tubes?

Well worst thing that could happen is water intrusion
