300/440/550 water temp from pisser?

I picked up this ski and 2 others a few weeks ago. I tried to fire it up and water was coming out of the head gasket and exhaust gaskets. So i sealed up the top end of the engine and the exhaust. Did some carb work and fired it up. Runs pretty good. Got some warm water coming out while hooked to the hose, but not hot. maybe 100degrees. When I run the ski in the water the water out of the pisser gets too hot to touch. Ive never experienced that with any yamaha skis. Also noticed the pump makes an occasional clanging noise when out of the water.

Also noticed when I lifted it out of the water, that the water dripping out near the pump was actually really hot, and it doesnt seem like my stock bilge is working since there was a decent amount of water in there(mostly because I left the flush kit cap off and water went in the hull for a few seconds, didnt over heat it though:smashfreakB:)

Im thinking I could have a pump issue especially because of how hot that water dumping out of pump was. Maybe the pump is seizing. This guy who put it together kinda of halfa$sed everything, and he claimed he rebuilt the pump.

ski has stock exhaust.

Any thoughts? Thanks

check to make sure that all of your cooling lines are going the right way, the water shouldn't get too hot to touch
is there a decent amount of water coming out or just a little?

I know Im resurecting an old one,but is there an optimal water temp that should be reached. Something that could be controled with a ball valve. Say you were riding in the winter in cold water and the ski has been adjusted to run in warm water.

120F was what I always shot for, you can hold your hand in the stream for a few seconds but can't keep it there.

My Kawi 800 i had ball valves off the head and to the pipe stinger for just that reason. Rode in 50-90 degree water and would adjust accordingly. I have a valve from my dry pipe exit to overboard now to adjust pipe temp by how much water exits and how fast. This is a pic of dry pipe exit in my carbon ROK.WDK ROK.jpg

This is waaaay to hot to put your hand under for more than a split second. Where did you get this number from? Just curious because I'm doing searches trying to find a legit answer for how hot pisser water should be.

That's not water temp but cylinder wall tempature witch should be close to cylinder tempature on the inside of the water jacket... why mess with the water temp when you can put a temp strip on your cylinder and know your good.. example my ski is tuned for the ambient air temp here but the lake is 80° f and the river is 52°f the water exiting at the river will be colder because there is the same amount of time for them in the cylinder. and my temp strip is barley lighter at the river than when at the lake. There is only so much time for the thermal conductivity of the water to engine regardless of the setup. Exaust tempature would really be the way to go but I can't find a waterproof minatere one.

im having the same problem. bone stock 1988 js550. hoses are all clear and correctly installed. hose from pump to the barb closest to the head that faces rear. hose from barb on the outside of manifold facing forward goes to the head and small barb on back of pipe is the pisser hose. still gets really hot and steams but has plenty of water flow coming from pisser. just got ski running after swapping out carb so maybe im running to rich and combustion is causing excessive heat in the cylinders. still tweaking carb settings.

rich = cooler motor.... lean = hot...... the water from the pissers is suposed to be hot hot enough to burn you if your touching it for longer than a second..

The way you describe it sounds wrong the water should go from the pump to the exaust manifold through the exaust manifold into the head through the cylinder water jacket then out the head to your exaust and pisser.... unless you have a dual cooling setup you should post pictures
