Water Ingestion

ok have a little problem...never had a problem with water ingestion before with the stock 38mm carb on it. the bilge would pump out the water like its supposed to and i would just keep doing tricks...well i bought this 44SBN with a Fly Racing F/A and any little splash i get inside my engine compartment the carb sucks in water and the motor bogs down and sometimes dies.

now this isnt a LOT of water in there either, i'm talking about a dry hull and then 1 sub or nose stab and if it leans to the carb side BOOM the thing dies down.

Question about Fly Racing F/A...is the blue sock that fits around the F/A supposed to have some sort chemical on it that beads the water up so it drips off (like if it was soaked in oil) or is it just a covering?

It might not be water ingestion, I have found that the 44 & 46 carbs tend to go rich if you lean hard or throw the boat to the carb side. I have noticed this problem for years and have noticed that since I installed my Full specs it does seem to have that problem any longer. I think it has something to do with the fuel pump being external for these carbs. Check for milky residue in the carb throat after you ride, that usually indicates that some water has entered the carbs.

The blue sock as you call is treated with silicone or something similar to make it repel water. This seems to wear off after a while and is not as effective. I personally do not like those covers as they can be restrictive and make the boat run rich. You might try to find a stock Yamaha F/A from the single carb 650 or 701 years and remove one of the screens and run it to keep water out if turns out to be the problem.
