sxr-hood problems???

ok ski has a factory wetpipe and the air horns removed per instructions. its an 06 low hours, has siphon and rule bilge working. the hood hoses are cut shorter to accomodate the pipe.

on flat water runs fine all day, within 20 minutes in the small surf in daytona today it started limping on one cyl. its a friend of mine relaying all this about his sxr so I don't every little details and it is very possible I am missing something. We rode at dunedin causeway last sunday in 1-2' wind driven slop and on hard turns right I nearly did a sub and within a few seconds it started chuggin along like had ingested. cleaned up after a minute and was fine.

it doesn't have the front hole blocked and no hood mods have been done other than shortening the hoses.

is it loading up because of not enough air or is the water somehow being driven into the hood on right turns and falling down on the flame arrestor and getting sucked in?

something else?????? any ideas? anyone else have this type of crap happen? Do I need to open up the other rear intake, cut holes in the top of the hood like the Rius hoods what?? he is beyond frustrated and I can't do much way over here but guess at what is going on.

The SXR hood is designed to let alot of air in, this also lets alot of water in as well. Best to cover up some of the air intakes. Blowsion sells a blockoff kit, but ducktape works or just glass over one of the holes.

Well he reported back that it is windy and way sloppy compared to yesterday and after 20 minutes or so its been fine. that was like and hour ago and I have not heard any bad news so hopefully that was it. I made him find the old sensor and put some dielectric grease on it, put it back on and zip tie it out of the way.

thanks for pointing out the obvious and easy fix. why didn't I see that?:banghead:

The blowsion blockoff plate is solid gold. best $20 i ever spent on my sxr. I'm sure you could make one yourself if you're good at metal fab
