:banghead: well i just got done with a 5 hour roadside fix on my superjet here at the beach woo hoo! :rolleyes: i got up this morning and went to test my ski out for a little in the sound before i take it out in the surf tomarrow. everything went well, i leaned out my carb a little and fooled around for abt 2hrs then once i took it out and cleaned it all up then went to start it so my buddy could hear it, and i accidentally flooded the carb, so while still trying to crank it over it suddenly stopped turning the motor and the starter just spun freely. well after taking the flywheel cover off i pulled out the tip of my starter :bigeyes:... lucky for me that a jetski mechanic has a shop right down the street, he sold me a used oem starter for 50 bucks. so i came back and began wrenching, thank god i brought my tools and sealants, after removing everything i then had to make an hour trip to the mainland just to pick up a $5 box of cable ends bc mine broke off of the old starter... finally got it all back toagther and tested, it worked well :woot: but i am about sick and tired of all of these things happening every damn time i take it out. at some point everything will be replaced and there will be nothing left to break.
hopefully nothing will go wrong tomarrow in the ocean.

:haha:

Keep on thinking that. :splatt::banghead:

it'll work it's way full circle. Best way to prevent these types of things is to go over the whole boat. If something is questionable, replace it, or ask someones opinion here on the board. Preventative maintainence is the key. The ocean is the wrong place to find out things are not working right.

well my problems have all been bad luck related, except for this starter, and the bad bendix when i bought it. the rock that i threw through the pump that shattered the reduction nozzle.. freak accident, the main cooling line that poped off and nearly fried my motor... another freak accident. now all i need to do is find out why 2 of the 3 exhaust manifold head bolts have come loose twice... as for now though locktite is just gonna have to work.

don't push it with those bolts. If they keep backing out, you most likely have some stripped threads in the cylinder. The best thing to do is pull the engine, and have those holes fixed. Either yourself, or a good motorcycle shop that does machine work can "Time-Sert" them for you.

Those bolts will just keep loosening, and your gonna break something worse if you keep "pushing your luck".

I have seen it happen on two cylinders

oh yea btw, is there any way to replace just the top part of the starter, where the piece that extends out is? it sheered straight off, but the thing still spins, i just would hate to throw it away if i could just replace the gear thing

not the head bolts to the cylinder, they are the bolts from the manifold to the head pipe, im gonna put helicoils in them once i get back home next week.

haha... i've seen that too. Your pipe is just gonna keep falling off, but maybe not if you keep tightening them. You wouldn't need to pull the engine to time sert those. Try to find a shop in the area to do it for you. better than you having to keep wrenching on your boat.

as of the starter, I have no idea... call JetSkiSolutions . I know they rebuild starters.

Just my sense of humour..... Something is always going wrong with these, regardless of the age of the parts...

get that starter in and go ride...:biggthumpup:

Good to hear you got it running. Where in NC do you ride surf? I'm looking for some guys to ride surf with and a decent place to ride. Have any suggestions on a good location? I'd like to go this Sunday. I have a Funmover (camper with garage in the back) so a camping spot would be awesome, but anything will work. Btw, I ride a '96 superjet, been out of the sport for awhile, but glad to be back.

i was going to ride in the surf today but it was just my luck that there was a cop at the beach access, he told me the only way i was going to ride there was if i put it in the sound and then rode 15miles to the inlet then rode back around....yea right, so i took it to the sound again, and it went well overall, but my spark plug cap kept coming off, fixed that after the thrid time, then my damn exhaust cone blew off at the large coupler. then my starter wire broke off at the connection when i went to check my gas level ( i knew it would happen bc i used the wrong size fitting for the wire, o well) this is the third time it has happened since i have owned it, and i am definately putting it on tight... the hose that leads to the waterbox has a lot thinner walls compared to any of the other exhaust hoses, and it allows the cone to move foward bc it doesnt really provide any strenght at the end of the tail cone. if i replace this hose with some good thich radiator hose is there a chance that it will give me enough structure to not allow the cone to move foward unless there is some serious pressure?

well hopefully next season when i get the 701 in, there will not be problems bc everything will be new.

at the last PNW surf ride in Lincoln City there was one point when we had 13 boats on shore and 7-8 were broken, there was also a ski at the ramp that never even made it to the water. These things will always break. If you read the owners manual most say "Not for Jumping waves" or "Not designed for tricks". By the time everything is replaced the first part replaced will be ready to break. . .

get a good hose clamp and tighten it down. On the bright side when something breaks you can always 'replace' it with a new improved model.
