up for suggestions

had my 701 bored and ported by jet works and also had my 38s tapered bored to 44s. have had carb tuning issues but think i have them close now. problem now is my motor just dont seem to be as strong as other 701 motors that i have ridden. the boat has a b pipe, ada head and a skat 10/18 impellar. thinking i should have a little more ass in this motor. have talked to art numerous times but just dont think its up to par. looking for tuning ideas.

You've got a bunch of engine. Consider a lighter flywheel and shorter prop.

What compression are you running, slim?

175 psi. got a lightened flywheel in the works. was thinking a 10/18 was short enough but art is suggesting a 13/17 freeride impellar. he said my impellar was junk but it was working great before so i opted for the carb work instead of the impellar. may have made a mistake.

10-18 is more old school, it was probably fine with your setup before, but now you have made drastic changes...

Follow your builders advice, he knows what he is talking about.

The Skats are pitched differently than the Solas's.

It weird. A 13/16 Skat is way different than a 13/16 Solas.

I have no idea why.

Also . . . is it possible that your foam is soaked?

Ask your mom for the recipe to your favorite dish that she makes.... now, don't follow the recipe at all and see what it turns out like. Genius.

Since you blatantly disregarded the impeller suggestion he wanted you to run, what else did you decide to do on your own? Hell, the majority of the problem might not even be the impeller.

And to quote the borderline questionable advice of Group K, but whatever, it's mostly a quote out of a magazine.....

"October 1994 Splash magazine states that the Pro Tec 770 stoker engine (at $5750) will only turn a 10-18 prop to 7100 rpm. Being generous, that would drive a Super Jet hull to the 51 - 52 mph range. "

Now... how well do you expect your ported 701 stock stroke engine to pull that same impeller? Ahnd in 94, I'd wager that because of racing only, those engines were mostly ported for optimum top end and still only getting 7100 rpm out of 'em.

Its probably your prop, nozzle, and cone combo. I think this is one of the biggest keys in dialing in a ski. I bought a Big Bore Flat Top last year and thought it was slugglish all year on the bottom. It had great mid and top. It is a Riva motor that came out of a Blaster so I thought it was just ported for mid to top. After riding another friends limited ski that felt better than mine I was pissed. My boat has TL, 48 carbs, 205 comp., ect. and I felt there was no way a boat with some bolt ons should spank on mine. I swapped to a steeper prop and it made a night and day difference. My boat had no bottom because it was spinning the prop I had in it. I have recently upgraded to a Mag pump and it has made another significant difference. I was thinking about selling my motor a few weeks ago that is how unhappy I was, but after making the prop adjustments I am very pleased. Think of your prop as the gearing in a car. A corvette starting off in 6th gear will get spanked by a taurus. The props you mentioned using are ancient and doesn't sound like the right pitch for your application. If the company that set your motor up recommends certain components and settings I would listen to them. This probably isn't there first rodeo and they have tested these setups. I have rode a few Jetworks motors and they have all had excellent power, so I would go back to the drawing board and figure out what you can do to bring out the power in the motor. Good Luck!

i havent blatanly disregarded nothing, the impellar is the same impellar that he said would work fine, just suggested a different one that i did buy and will recieve. for what its worth to you, every last thing he said do, i have. like i said earlier, the ski is very strong, still think they are more left to get out of it.
