Unable to access some websites

Last night i was up late working on project for class and couldn't access Webct( school site) to upload the finished project. I chalked this up to them doing some late night maintenance and ignored it. This morning I couldn't either. So I drove to school to upload some work for an online class. I'm trying to figure out the problem now, but I think it has something to do with websites with a log in page. I wasn't able to access my school email either along with the log in pages on a few other sites ( Reddit). I know these weren't down and i recently had to get a new dsl modem. Yesterday i had to reset it and the firmware updated. I'm assuming thats the culprit. What should I play with to see if it is? MTU? The att guy said the new motorola modems were such crap and would give me tons of problems, but its all at&t would give me for free.

First test would be to see if your DNS has been set/changed (not by you, of course).

The next test would be to see if you can get to sites like avg or spybot.

If you're using MIE, try restoring the defaults in tools, internet options, programs. U should be able to leave your homepage alone.

Sounds to me like you got spyware/malware/rootkits.

I really doubt spyware since i can access these sites on my school's network. I tried at home using OSX, Win 7 and Xp. All three had the same problem. I'm not at home til 8 so i can't change anything yet to see if its a fix.

What website you trying to get to?

If you can get on a website on your school's computer, but not your home computer, why wouldn't it be spyware/malware/rootkits? (I lump those 3 together cuz they're treated the same (not REMOVED the same)).

I probably won't be back on until Monday. Hopefully someone else can help you out by then.

Check for viruses. Run spybot and check for spyware/malware. I don't think spybot checks for rootkits.

If you have Mcafee and it doesn't find any viruses, that doesn't mean your computer isn't infected. Mcafee has missed viruses (IME) that an AVG scan found.

I'm on my laptop at school on the school's net work and i am able to access the sites. This rules out spyware/viruses in my book. I'm running avast, malware bytes, and run no script in firefox so its pretty rare for me to pick something up. What virus would similarly affect 3 seperate computers running different operating systems. I'm fairly certain its the new modem. I'm just not sure what setting to adjust. From what i'm reading MTU is likely the problem but i'm not really sure about messing with the network settings.

That changes things.

Now the problem's pointing to an issue in the network. That's the only thing that's different, the network.

I've not heard of this happening before, ever. What you may try doing is setting the DNS manually to "205.171.3.65". That's Qwest's DNS server.

The only thing I can think of is a problem with your home ISP's DNS.
