hey might be a stupid question but can you run a type 4 on a stock head with the stock pipe suport bracket? guess it doesnt matter though cause you're going to want a girdle anyway... thanks guyys

Yo, I got the type for its been mounted on a stock head for 2 years, now I got an ada. I only have the 2 head mounts, my flywheel cover mount is broken off. Never have I had a problem, just replace the coupler once a year, its does wear thin in spots, AND also have a spare in stock, its nice piece of mind, I can change one in 15-20 mins taking my time. I only replace mine once a year because for some reason the pipe comes off I look at the coupler and its thin in 2 spots, otherwise I wouldnt change it till it blows. Youll usually know, lack of performance and look for black gunk on the inside of the hull.

Mount it with out the coupler on once this will give you an idea how close the alignment is. You want the exhaust manifold and the pipe chamber to be as close to being inline as possible. You may need to add some washers between your front lord mount and the flywheel cover to help with alignment, or just bend the bracket if you can.
I was lucky mine seems real close and I am going on my third season with the same coupler. When I pull the engine I check the couple to make sure it is in good shape. The last time I pulled it I didn’t have any thin spots but I noticed it looked like it is cracking. I left it in just to see how long it will last and I carry a spare with me.

I second all of Officer Mike's questions. I just got my type 4 and heard it blows couplers a lot. Where do you align it to avoid that problem? The rubber dampeners seem to have a lot of flex... which in my mind means it shouldn't be too hard to align.

When I installed my pipe, I had to remove lots of material from the holes for the lord mounts to make it align properly. Just take your time and install it "dry", without the coupler. You may need to adjust the front bracket as well to make it fit. The idea is that the pipe shouldn't "fight" the lord mounts or the coupler in the default position. This will ensure long life of pipe, coupler and lord mounts.
I also did the JSS mods to manifold and stinger, really recommended.
I am happy with the pipe, ski pulls like a Mack...

That will work, you can do it with the coupler on it and if the lord mounts have to be pushed over then you need to open or slot the holes some more.
Also, the front mount, after you have the top 2 aligned, then you do the same process to the front. You want the lord mounts to support and hold the pipe in place, not just support or hold.

thanks for all the feedback. my pipe rubs the girdle acorn and the the one lord mount bracket bolt. not touching when the motor is off, but i can see the marks from vibration. ...

I think a lot of these pipes do that. I use a smaller nut for the bolt and massaged the chamber for a little more clearance.

Same here. Greater head with the ADA bracket.
