Turn plate loose, no steering, help

I was riding my 04 the other day and noticed my bars were sloppy randomly and ski was having trouble turning left. I broke my steering nozzle where the steering cable attaches. I replaced the nozzle today but am seeing my turn plate is loose and when I turn the handlebars my nozzle does not move to the left, only to the right after I manually point the nozzle to the left. Does anyone have a picture of what the turn plate and cable look like normally underneath the handlebar pad? I’m assuming something has broken there or cable lock clamp is not in the right place but I have nothing to reference to. Thank you

I’d check fir a bent steering cable at the nozzle end… disconnect the cable at the nozzle and see if the cable has full throw right and left when the bars are turned.

Other than that, remove the chin pad, 2 screws from under side, one each side and slide the pad off it’s hidden front mounting tang. At the poll the cable sheath end sits in a U shaped anchor that has an internal raised rib that intersects with the steering cables grove and the cable is held down in that U by a bolt and thin flat rectangular metal tang…

Thank you for the reply. I’ve got the pad off, but I was just hoping for a pic of what it’s supposed to look like to reference because everything looks to be in tact, except my turn plate is loose. When I turn the bars and cable is disconnected from the nozzle, the cable doesn’t move outward, it will only pull in once manually pulled out.

The cables are kinda fragile, they can break on the inside… they also like to bend, which also limits their movement…

I bent one at the beach real bad… into a 90 at the bars… straightened it as best I could and rode, could only make right turns lol….

The cable sheath should stay stationary at both ends and the inside cable should move all the way in and all the way out when operated from either end..

soumds like you need a new cable, but you should be able verify it….

Easy way to verify a broken cable internally, grab the nozzle, turn the bars. The cable will still push the nozzle as it just butts against itself and pushes. If the nozzle doesn't move when you steer the opposite direction, the cable is broken internally.
