Well I finally bought another RN. It is an '05 and practically new. First thing I want to do to it are foot holds and turf. I want the turf to come out near perfect. Would I be better off buying precut, or a sheet?

I'm definitely not an expert turfer, but the guy who helped me with mine pretty much is.

If you really want it to look good buy a sheet and use heat to mold it to the holds and railcaps so you dont have any cuts.

just buy a sheet of it and do it yourself....Just measure and measure again, I can say my friend and i had never done it before and we turfed the tray, railings, nose, and under the pole. Came out looking great!

This was my first turf job, and I think it looks great. Just buy a sheet and take your time. With the sheet you can do the bottom of the tray in one piece vs pre cut where there is 3 pieces.

buy a sheet if you are worried about stuffing it then buy some foam that will bend similar to the turf cut that first and use as a template that way you know it fits before you cut the turf when you do the rails dont fold it under cut it on a 45 and sand the edge

I've doen it both ways...precut kit is way simpler but does require a little trimming to make fit properly. You shouldn't have any problems with a sheet either its just a pain to get the proper templates made, but if you take your time and don't mind tedious work like that than go for it. ALso with the sheet don't forget you'll need to buy a seperate sheet of underpadding aswell.

Very important to cut the turf on the rails instead of wrapping it under.

The dude who owned my ski before me wrapped the turf on the rails. Me not knowing any wiser rode it for a few weekends. Lost both rails and rear rail area (exhaust outlet location).

I picked up the intact piece of turf out of the lake, dried it, re applied with a cut on a 45 degree angle and used Gorilla glue. Rock solid, can't feel it move when standing on it during a fountain...

Now that the season is over and they have already been off and on again, I'm going to redo it.

Fresh razor blades are a much, I think I switched razor blades like 14 times when i was turfing. And I would get two sheets, that was you can cut your pieces a little bigger, you have to trim a little more when its on, but you can snug it up better and not worry about screwing it up. The hardest part is cutting the bottom mat, i spent forever on a template for the bottom on mine. I cant even remember how we did Aarons, but his came out pretty good too. But definately razor blades, lots of DAP weldwood.....and a well vented area with a bathroom close by.

I was thinking about getting the precut kit for mine...just because Im new at turfing and want to make it as easy as possible (I also want it to look nice) in the gallery pics is he using a precut kit or did he cut that himself?

I think its only if the product you buy has the word "hydro-turf" on it. I don't think sheets and underpadding count.

I believe they discount everything except the B-Stock, as it's already discounted...

How thick of padding should I go with?

Depends..... some say the the 25mm is a little much due to most footholds can't accomodate that and a decent size foot. So you end up grinding down to make footprints where your foot goes... Seems like double layer 8mm might be the better route and only do a little grinding if needed.

Depends on preference and if you really go that big. Keep in mind HT sells half sheets or enough to do just the tray on the underpadding. A full sheet is a little much for one ski, half sheet should do with a little extra to do the tray rails and foothold tops.
