turf glue removal

my ski has some extra turf glue around the edges, and i cant get it off. I tried some nail polish remover with some MEC in it, and also tried some with acetone. Do i need to use straight up acetone from homedepot or something? The only way i can get through it is with a razor blade, but i dont want to take gashes out of the paint. any tips? thanks.

put the rag over the top and shake the bottle. Keep the cap on, it evaporates fast. Dont get it on your skin, it attacks your nervous system. Make sure its not gonna f-up your paint.

It takes quite a few repeated exposures for most to have any harsh effects, but it is a neurotoxin and targets several of your organs. Through the skin you dont absorb much (more, but enough to hurt you if you work with it often enough. Inhaling the vapors is probably the worst thing to do.

"In reviewing the available data, Morgott (1993) concluded that acetone is neither a skin irritant nor a contact allergen; however, prolonged or repeated dermal exposure may defat the skin and produce dermatitis (Krasavage et al., 1982). Direct contact with the eyes may produce irritation and corneal injury (Morgott, 1993). Vapor concentrations of 300 ppm may produce slight eye irritation in some individuals (Nelson et al., 1943). "

By comparison, it takes 5 hours of inhalation of 250 ppm concentration of acetone to get you pretty screwed up (and possibly in the hospital).

Eye... not so good. Paint thinner works for cleaning hands, while it is still toxic, it is not enough to hurt you (unless allergic) through the skin.

wow, this is making me frusterated. i got acetone today, and poured some onto a white cotton t shirt, and held it on the glue for about a minute. Nothing, i dont think it dissolved any of it!

i tried holding it on, then scratching it with a knife

i tried heating it up a bit with a heat gun, then holding some stuff on, then scratching. Nothing.

what the heck am i doing wrong? can it be too cold?

does it feel like the acetone is melting the contact cement at all? if it doesn't feel slimy at all its not going to to anything. you could try paint thinner but be careful it will rip your paint off too.
