300/440/550 Trying to find a decent 550...

Ok, I'm completely new to this so I wanted people's opinion on it. I found a stock 550 ( think it's in it's late 80's like a 89, just a guess.) with a great hull and comes with trailer too. The only issue I'm looking at is that it needs a PJS pipe (honestly have no clue what it is, i'm new to this..) and has no title. $200 sounded good to me, but like I said, wanted people's opinion on it, and will this just be a pain to deal with?
Thanks for the help.

Check the compression. Assuming it's good, just get a pipe.

Pipe = exhaust pipe/chamber.

Sounds like a good deal otherwise.

That's good to know, phew... don't have a lot of money to work with here, so I didn't want to have too many issues. Considering it, just need the OK with parents, lol. I have no experience with ski's at all, just want to get into the sport and all. Would the pipe be hard to install, and will it inquire me taking the engine out completely? I sound pathetic at the moment, haha.

That's yet to be determined. First get the thing running before you can tell what's wrong with it (if anything).

Get ready to learn!!! :smile:

Do you have any past experience with 2-cycle engines of any size? That will help.
U don't have to take the engine out, no.

One, I haven't contacted the seller yet, (craigslist), and 2, no I don't have any experience with 2-cycles, but my dad's gonna help me, so he'd probably know how to come about that.
I wanted to get into the sport because my uncle used to race yamaha's a few years back, and heard that the 550 is a good start, not to mention cheap.

Definitely cheap! Go ahead and start with that, but start saving up now for a superjet. :biggthumpup:

I love my wife's 550. Don't bother dumping much money into it for upgrades, assuming it's not currently stock.

Get a manual!!!!! It's the best reference tool U can get.

Thanks for the offer but I don't even have the ski yet, and it will already come with a new one, I would just have to install it when the time comes. =)
