Other trailer bunks

the flat deck trailer is due for some new bunks, the carpet is torn, the wood is rotting.was thinking of switching it to pvc tubing like i have seen on so many set ups in here.
any disadvantage to going this route..sure it a touch pricier than some 2x4's but i bet the slide on slide off is also much easier.

on that note is there a certain diameter you guys prefer... 3" almost looks too big, or is that the choice for added support strength? speaking of ...is one bolt on on each end through the flat deck floor sufficient as i dont see how you'd get a third anywhere

edit...just spotted more info that i hadnt seen ..finaly learned to specialize my "search " parameters.

use trex. its a synthetic wood used on decking that works great for bunks. raddudes uses it on their hitch hauler. works great on sliding the ski on and off non marking and also lasts a long time. its a couple bucks more than regular 2x4's but you dont need carpeting or sprays works great

I would use 2x4 composite bunks. Trex and Evergrain make them. They are not cheap but will last forever and will never rot.

2" pvc or electrical pvc conduit works well for an sj hull. That's what I use. No brackets, no braces, ski stays as low as possible. Helps launch & load to be low.
2" will clear cross-members of your trailer with an sj hull.

i used pvc. just make sure you use good quality sc 40 pvc, the black poop cracks and does not slide well

2 inch pvc works great but mounting it has a few issues. First go around I had, I only drilled a large hole in the top side, then a smaller thread sized hole in the bottom to mount them down. Seemed stable at first, but a few years later the bottoms got weak/loose and the bolt head+washers eventually pulled through. I then used treated 2x4's between every pvc pipe at both ends to keep them all spaced and secure. No problems since. If I end up redoing it again, I may use stainless steel or aluminum and weld tabs on to bolt through.
