Question: Is the new PVC suppossed to just channel water to the back of the engine compartment and drop it down to your bilge, or is it for air flow too (i.e. are you gonna block the stock rubber hoses so the only enter point for air/water is your new PVC?)

the pipe is just to let the water come out the back of the hood instead of the water having to flow out of the front of the hood while moving forward, im not expecting all the air for the engine to flow through those pipes. i still have the front hose in the stock location, which is all i have used for 2 seasons (ever since i have been running dual carbs). I plan on drilling another hole in the same spot on the other side of the hood liner for additional air. I still have the vents on top of the hood open.

My biggest problem was after stabbing the ski would bog really bad since the water in the hood had no where to go once the ski got moving forward and forced it into the bilge. This should eliminate this.

I see. I am having the same problem but thought maybe it was just because I switched from a stock F/A to a K&N. Maybe its just the way the water is being routed. Done a lot of riding, but not much modding far. I am going to look into it tonight.

Absolutely! I throw a stab, come around
and look down into fish tank in my hood!
the reason I went inch and a half is I want more air flow
from the rear and close off 4 of the 6 front holes,
leaving the corners open for drainage

actually worked out pretty well for a prototype
1 hour 15 minutes into the mod (not including overnite curing time)

testing testing 1 2 3 testing
built this high tech test rig to see hood drainage
discovered I need to keep front drains if I fall off and boat is horizontal

So to anyone who has removed the liner...do the vent tubes stick up past the liner inside? Or will water simply drain into the tubes as soon as it enters the hood?

I am now thinking of keeping the front holes open for drainage
and having a flow through hood :ugh2:
definitely need to do this on the other side too!

I think they stick up
from my experiments, you have to have at least
a couple of inches of standing water
to get drainage down the tubes
sides are not well cross connected like the 750sx hood

Sounds like a good idea to keep the front holes. You could probably seal a couple of them up and leave 1 on each side for trickle drainage. The rest will empty out as soon as you get on and start going again

the highly technical "tail stand" simulation
drains great! :woot:
the side I modded dried out instantly
the other side held a ton of water!!!! :ugh2: :grumble:

Looks like it works! I was thinking about gluing a strip of plastic or shower material along that same indent in the hood where you placed the pipe. It's molded about right for a drainage track anyway

yeah, I will probably go that route this winter
I was thinking skinny balloon (like for balloon animals)
then cover with epoxy resin and glass
then pop the balloon after it hardens!!!! :arms:

Looks great man. And its funny that you grabbed the hose and put it on a stand cuz I literally just finished doing the same thing. It holds a ton of water in there until you start swishing it around, then it just comes out the front. Never realized that before. I think I am going to go demo's way though. I really don't want to have to notch out the hood liner like you did. I will just use a smaller diameter pipe and drill a hole in it like he did. Thanks for all the pics. This is a nice and simple mod. I will probably tackling it tomorrow night!

yep all you need is roughly a 26inch piece of 1inch pvc or conduit or w/e, 4 45 degree elbows and some glue. It was a little tough getting it in all together. I couldn't glue the one elbow in place to get it in, I needed some play to get it to fit in place. After it was set in I glued the pipe to the elbow. Im gonna try to get the pool hose tomorrow and get that done and see how well it works.

taking out the :):):):)ty stock liner, beefing up the hood, and properly installing a new liner really isn't that hard (For most people)

Maybe I will post up a how to someday and try to scrounge up some pics
