so im in bad need of a new top end and probably crank. my questions is i dont have a ton to spend and are the wsm kits any good? they seem to be the cheapest. i want to go pro-x but if the wsm are good for the price it would help get a crank to. also i would like to go as big as i can on this 61x cyl, is 83mm max or can i go 85? without a re-sleave

Hey Rags! Good question here. I'm researching the same things right now. Personally I'm shootin for a freestyle port with 82mm bore and fresh crank. I believe this for me is the cheapest bang for the buck right now for this winter. Would also like to upgrade carbs as well. Give me a ring this week, need to talk to ya anyhow...

i would get an sbt crank and pro-x pistons....

WSM is good for some stuff, just not pistons. maybe on a bone stocker, but once you put some mods on it those pistons don't hold up.

I've heard that before...they will not hold up with a high compression engine.

I also believe, 83mm is max without re-sleeve. I don't think I would max out a cylinder right away If I was still at stock bore...

How much does a setup like that cost? Something up with my ski and a few guys said i MAY need to rebuild my top end so i figured i could go a bit bigger if its not a whole lot more expensive.

If you are going high compression go with Pro x ,Vertex or Wiseco. The WSM pistons are fine for stock or near stock applications which is 99% of what I do here. The platinum series pistons are coated and work very well,I use a lot of WSM pistons and have yet to see even one piston related failure thus far, thats out of hundreds of pistons I have installed in customers boats.
