Too broke for a super jet...

So I haven't really posted much on here before but thought I would start this to track my progress and maybe pick up some tips. I've wanted a super jet ever since I started riding but just can't seem to fund the build. Also don't want to sell my 440 because my kids will be riding sooner than later. So three years ago a buddy donated me a 550 hulll that was crashed and I hacked into it. Only to get it defoamed and sit there untill last week. Now its get it done or trow it out. So nothing with nothing to lose I started to giver. So in the last week I have managed to strip it. Cut down back the sides of the tray for my foot holds, do some cosmetic trimming and give it a pretty nice rocker. Atleast for a rookie. For now I will run my 440 motor with MSD and 44MM Carb on it, but I hope to build a 701 and drop that in. Time will tell.

Did some glass work on the rocker the other day and laid up a sheet on some acrylic to pop off and use to fill my tray. Again maybe not perfect but I am fairly happy with how it turned out. Still a fair amout of work to go.

Need foam?.... that's a matter of opinion really and we could have a endless debate with pros and cons. What I really NEED to do is fix the 6 inch crack beside the ride plate, and down the side from the hood seal to the bond line. I know of many skis in the area with no faom they run awesome take on virtually no water if glassed up right and any water that does come in is easily drained and won't stay saturated in the foam for years to come.

Been a lot threads lately about people sinking there skis and never finding them again. Kahuna is just trying to help ya out.

I have had no foam in my superjet for 5 seasons now and have never had an issue. The key to it how ever is making sure your hood has no possible way of ever coming off because that is really what sinks you. My hood is cut down really flat xft style held on with two tie down straps that has always been problem free. Second I run some drain plugs in the back letting me know if there is a problem that comes up such as a crack. Pull the drains and find what you have to fix. I don't run the versi plugs because I like to let me ski float in the water when hanging out with friends on boats. I even run a scupper but again it has to be tuned so that it actually seals with the water pressure when then ski is sitting there. The only place I think i will run foam in future builds is under the footholds just for support as i have had some cracking problems before in that area and I was use the rigid foam board style. Just my opinion on the matter
