to port or not to port

ive finally got enough parts together to build a new engine for this summer and wondering weather to get the cylinder ported or not . does proting effect the reliability much . i just cant decide what route to go . the new engine will be going in my x2 and will be a sxr 800 engine bored out to 840cc ported cases, rebuild crank with ceramic crank bearing, tbm non charging flywheel , wax ignition set up as a total loss, v force reeds duel 46mm carbs and a blaster limited chamber . i have all these bits already sitting in the garage ready to go but not sure weather to get the cylinder ported . i know the pro,s with porting but is there any cons with porting like shorter engine life etc etc .
any advice would be appreciated
thanks guys

Port it!

Yes widening the ports will decrease engine life but then again...boring to 840cc will probably decrease engine life roughly the same amount. You can always do the homebrew sport port from racelogic. I've got a write up in my sig if you wanna look into it. Not difficult and relatively cheap.

I know only the basics. Wider exhaust ports, and maybe wider transfers.
You'd want to talk to a pro about more details.

would a port job so much if the rest of the ski is stock, as in not bored out is there a crank i should put in too?

Stock crank unless you're going for a stroker.

It seems that even a stock-piped SXR benefits from porting.
