TL Flywheel and Dead Battery

My "Optimate" smart charger tells me that my battery is fine....green/green.....yet my ski looses spark after running it an hour or so.....it's a very oddball situation that takes place each launch, runs great and eventually looses power like it's missing or fouled but its not, I think it's missing SPARK.

I plan to launch WITHOUT charging, expect it to run like crap, then CHARGE it at the dock and run it again to confirm my suspicion.

But in the end, WHY does my "SMART" charger tell me green/green and all is fine if my battery is crapping out? Could my battery just be good enough to take the charge in the first place, fool the smart charger but actually too weak to HOLD the charge?? If so, I"ll buy a real good battery to use with the TL flywheel

Sounds like the battery is shot, id just buy a new one as there only cheap.

The charger can still charge it to what it thinks is full, but cells can be damaged and not hold a charge.

Only way to truly know is take it to a local garage or motorist shop and have them test it with a proper battery tester.

The guy I bought the ski from in the spring gave me receipts and he bought a battery about a year ago. Maybe a little longer, but that's what confused me about even thinking of battery as my problem. Could it be the battery was ruined by being discharged and left in the cold or something like that?

Batteries go bad for many reasons with little to no reason. I count on buying a battery per season per ski.

I have 3 Deka's on the shelf that look brand new but act exactly as you describe.

Very cool. Thank you for this news. I am now very encouraged. I will launch it and for the first time without charging it since the last ride when it was acting up, missing and carrying on like it could not get full throttle. Exactly as though it had an electrical problem! On my next launch I'll hope for it to run like crap, even with fresh gas and new plugs. Then I'll charge it up at the dock and take another ride. Boom! That should proove the scenario! I just invested 200 bucks at a shop testing compression and looking everywhere for a problem that does not exist!

All I absolutely know is that the battery does not get a charge while riding due to the TL and only God knows what voltage is needed from the battery for it to run properly. Mine is an '07

I would not trust a smart charger necessarily. For about $22 you could buy a loadtester (meter built in). You might also have a bat. checked for free at Advance Auto stores and similar. Here's a chart I made up for charging my batts, utilizing a volt meter. Works well.P1030101.JPG

Finally got my ski all fixed up. It was not the battery. It needed an ignition coil. Problem solved. Runs great, and I am now starting to learn how to turn while having the time of my life on it. I know it will only get better as I learn how to ride it now. So glad that at least I got it fixed in time to actually get standing on it before having to wait until next summer to ride it. I may haul it to GA in October for a long weekend and ride it at Lake Lanier before the winter sets in.
