First time cracking open the engine. Any tips on torque spec's or liquid gasket to use? Also anything I should check/look for while I have it open?

I wouldn't recommend a liquid gasket. New oem gasket is your best bet.

They tell you to use the liquid stuff. But I have read some mixed reviews
on the stuff they recommend.

What other mods do you have? Are you just looking to bump compression?

Full Coffman exhaust, stainless prop, intake grate and ride plate. I am looking for more power. Plan is this winter to have jetmaniac port and bore the engine too.

I would run an OEM gasket if its not an oringed head.
Use some 1211 around the outside of the water jacket if you feel you need a sealant.
