Time for a new hull

Help needed here - all opinions are valid to me so post your thoughts. looking for a new (used) hull, I have been riding a WDK Rev for the last few years and I am ready for something shorter with more pop off the waves. I ride nothing but flat water (small lake) boat chasing & playing on the wakes. I want a ski that will flip with a limited 701 setup for now. I am looking for feedback on the BAM hull from crazy joes and the backie chan.
both of these are built semi close to me so I am seeing some used ones available at decent price and close enough to drive and pick up. ok people I am 52 and not getting any younger! let me know what you think will get this old man in the air! any feedback appreciated. it is very cold here so test rides are out of the question lol.

Thanks
Bob

Tigercraft has been recommended highly - unfortunately the ones i've seen are out of my price range, too far away. I have a 144 setback pump so also looking for something that will take that.

Understandable, on a side note though many will agree with me if you are going for flatwater freestyle the oem 155 will out perform the 144 mag and its cheaper. I would consider going to a 155 with which ever hull you decide on. Plus it give you room to build it up with bigger power later if you decided.

When you get this new ski built, you better head up to Peoria this summer and help me chase some boats. We've got a few flipper skis you're welcome to ride.

i've been talking to crazy joe - that is why i am asking for input. i was hoping there were a few people that hadn't already given input on this ski in other threads (only found a few). just looking for info. thanks hell i am ready to call in sick to work to drive and get a ski...lol

I am you, but in California and 2 years younger. It is tough to compare apples to apples with all of the different setups out there and even tougher to find local test rides.

If your choices are strictly a BAM or a backie Chan, I would go with crazy joes hull all day long. He's a good guy and does some very nice work. He's got that full carbon bam for $2500 right now, should be a no brainer.

Link to the hull? Thanks!

I got to ride one of these this summer. Crazy Joe is a good guy and it's a lot of hull for the money, but the Tigercraft I have ridden are FAR more impressive to me. I have ridden a SV1 and a Auquabot V2 and liked them both. To me the SV1 rode a little like a Rickter FR2 but better cornering and overall handling. The Auquabot had a smaller more playful feel that I preferred, but would need to spend some time trying to get the balance right for me. The Aquabot was the first ski I have ridden since buying my freak that made me think that another ski might fit my needs as well as my freak.

Maybe I missed it. What's the budget range you're trying to stay in? What can you get for your ski? Maybe trade and cash could get u on a tiger or something else.

no you didn't miss anything - i just asked about 2 hull reviews for hulls I saw were available atm and seemed reasonable in price. The BAM had very few reviews that i could find so i was just asking if anybody had any input on them. I plan on trying to sell my wdk rev hull afterwards, hoping to get something for it as it is still in decent shape and very usable.

I have ridden all of these skis. The orange BAM hull I spent a good half hour on this summer and had a blast on it. Very capable setups and great for waves and will do flat-water maneuvers. Any tigercraft out there will be awesome as well. The SV-1 and V2 are excellent riding and very well built. Any of these skis mentioned will put a smile on your face for sure. Do yourself a favor with the pump and do the 155 setup. The more water you can process the better. Best bang for the bunch is that BAM for 2500. Good luck man!

Can you give some more detailed impressions? What do you think of it as a rec. freestyle hull?

So many factors to affect this. I had a dvx with a huge motor and small tank and had a lot of fun. My motor package would flip any ski out there. I rode the BAM with a 61x 61x and had a great time in a few foot surf. Two different animals for sure. You won't buy a DVX for $2500. All I can say is ride a ton of hulls and figure it out. We are keyboard cowboys all day long on this site. You can feel a hull by reading reviews. Reviews tell you whether people are happy with their purchase and how good customer service is. Joe won't do you wrong for sure. I think he would sell a lot more hulls if more people rode them. Hope that helps.

I rode an original Chan and did not like the way they feel at all. Now this doesn’t mean anything about the new hulls from the new builders but since my first ride on a Chan I have no desire to get back on one. I have not ridden a bam yet but have seen many people get on them and stay on them for a long period of time and when they do finally get off them they are smiling. Joe is also a standup guy and very easy to talk to and his work is top notch.
