tighten handlepole eme q8

got myself a eme q8 used. ive tighted the handle pole as hard as possible, anymore and something is going to break. but the pole still moves freely what the hell! any ideas as i know there is no pole springs available for this eme. thanks

Also take a look at the pole bracket plates and make sure they're square/plum/flush. If not, they'll work the bolts loose when the pole is pivoted (and trash the bushings). I had to shim both of my plates with washers and grind the "bucket" they sit in to get the pole to line up in the hood channel straight.

X2, I didnt pay any attention this. Mine is not bad but I do have to check my bolts every once in a while.

Its an RRP Pole and EME bracket. whats the most accurate way to check if everything is flush? ill take the pole of and check the bushings, thanks. ill update when ive checked them

If the edge of the bushing that sits against the bracket is flat, set it in the brackets and bolt it in snug with the brackets NOT bolted to the hull. Center it in the hood chanel then look to see where the gaps are between the brackets and hull. Mine required washers in a few spots between the hull and the bracket. My pole wasn't straight in the hood chanel and I had to grind about an 1/8 off the front of one of the brackets to get it to move far enough towards the nose so the pole would center up in the hood chanel. You can then start bolting the bracket in. I had to oblong a few of the bottom holes in the hull for the bolts that come up into the bracket. If your bushings aren't flat then replace them or sand/mill them flat so you have a good mating surface to start with.

I also put a stainless and nylon washer on the pole bolts before putting them in. Once the bolts in tight I red locktite the nut. So far it hasn't loosened up and it's smooth as butter.

What do you mean? These were EME plates that came with the hull. They fit fine with the exception of needing some shimming. I just had him lighten them up.

They don't sit straight in the hull but yea I can see shimming them working. I know a few guys have grinded down on the hull some.

Right, the plate is straight though, I wouldn't want to take any material off the surface that meets with the pole or hull. I can imagine getting a perfectly vertical flat surface in the hull molds is difficult if not impossible. I too had to grind some of the hull in the front corner to get the bracket to move far enough forward. One of the plates on mine was off by a hair at the pole pivot which equated to about 1-1/2" at the turnplate.

I have had some similar issues. Try to grind the inside of the hull flush so that your washers sit flat to the glass. Post up and inside shot of your bolts and nut set up. I used inside washers and double nuts. An inside bushing may also help as this is a different set up than most.
