what do most of you prefer??my hybrid has the thumb/finger shifter and i really like the setup.the new 29er has twist shift.i have a set of thumb/finger shimano sifters i could put on it.
Other thumb/finger or twist shift??

If you are running Grip shift then most likely you have a SRAM derailleur, you will not be able to use the Shimano shifters with that derailleur. I have both and like both. They have their plus's and minus's.
Definitely go with index shifters they offer faster shifting and less wear and tear on your whole drive train. And yes if the gear set up is the same on the shifter and cog you can run shimano with SRAM . Like a 3 gear front shifter with 3 gear chain ring . Or 8 gear rear cog with 8 gear shifter any brand
