through hull repair

the hull I'm working on has lots of through hull holes I want to fill. what is the best way to fix this.

I thought I read to make a plug the size of the hole and glass it in but all the instructions online for boat reapair say to taper and and lay up some glass from both sides.

any advice?

Depends if its fiberglass or SMC. Fiberglass is easy...feather (taper) around the front and backside of each hole and lay the cloth from backside and use fiberglass chop fill mixed really thick (chop & epoxy) over the front. Grind smooth.

You could cheat a little for a speedy repair---> Grind hole from backside giving it an even feather (taper). Place masking tape over hole and the frontside. From backside, fill hole (1/8 deep only) with fiberglass chop then lay 2 or 3 layers of cloth over that. After it dries remove tape, sand smooth, gelcoat area or duraglass if paint.

If you plan on applying gelcoat, then instead of using fiberglass chop to fill front of hole, thicken pigmented gelcoat with cabosil (as thick as sourcream) and apply. Sand flush, compund & polish.

What sanford said but i use bondo fiberglass resin jelly instead of glass/cabosil/resin but still glass behind it. Then glaze it with glazing compound. .....if you're talking old through-hull fitting spots and whatnot.
