650/X-2 Throttle cable

So i changed my 88 650 sx over from a thumb throttle to a finger throttle. Now the throttle has no return. The old stock thumb throttle had a spring in it which helped with the spring on the throttle in the engine. i would imagine this is a pretty common problem. Any ideas the cable does seem pretty dry and old if i got a new cable do you guys think it would be enough?

So what's the issue? The throttle cable doesn't slide very easily, so it's too much work for the spring on the throttle plate?

Don't try to fix it. Buy a new one. If that thing gets stuck, you could get hurt, lose your ski or kill someone.

The throttle body return spring should be enough to return the carb to idle. If it does not, you have a problem you MUST repair. That cable becoming stuck in any position but neutral will spell for a very bad day. If that ski gets away from you, it can WOT until it sinks or worse crashes into something or someone. It's not worth the risk, replace it, and add a lanyard kill switch.
