On this episode we take a tired old carbon FS1 and set it up for small surf and creeks. Having always rode FX's, with 1 season on a '13 SJ I found I liked the tray size of the SJ but not the weight. Having modded a couple FX's I was facing more fiberglass work to get what I wanted. After talkin to my buddy Chuck @ CPT, turns out the FS1 was pretty much what I was after ready to go (HA HA).

The handle pole is just for DMV purposes.

These giant drains should've been a hint.

Nothin fancy goin in here , 61X, single dribbler, B Pipe, WetJet mani, light flywheel, carbon reeds, 144 OE pump/no tilt. I am after reliability.

On my last boat I wound up polishing the exhaust AFTER the corrosion started, but once polished way easier to keep clean ( I ride salt water only). In this pic this pipe is 22yrs old.

So, time for some fun.

This right here is the best place for powder coating. You fresh water guys don't know how easy you got it!

Time for the drains. The only thing I will bond to carbon is stainless. Made these out of 3/8 weld bungs.

Hull clean up, removed everything, rethreaded (NOT tapped) ALL inserts.

Looks nice. I’d love to find a nice fs1.

Like I said, nothing fancy here. Simple.

Time for assembly. Those cooling lines, they look fine, I don't have to check them, but I'll humor myself.

At first I thought I had a faulty gauge, NOT ! So on to it.

Little bit of heat, Little bit of hammer, this is what I got.

I wound up "coning" the bulkhead and pump tunnel.

I used 316 stainless lines, I know that extra 40 grams of weight might cost me the World Finals, but I'm not doin this again !

I cut a notch on tube for a "mechanical" connection.

Mixed my epoxy flowable and stood ski up for my "pour".

After the lines, I wasn't putting any aluminium against the carbon if I could help it. Break out the 316 3/16 SS plate.

Wound up making my own pole stops. Angled instead of a sharp edge.

Friggin aluminum! Stainless is the only way to go (you already knew that).I either build with carbon,stainless or PVC now.

Fresh water guys just don't understand. Add carbon to it ,tenfold problem.
