The only way to de-foam your ski

Tools required:
1 Sawsall
1 four inch chisel
1 big arse hammer:bigeyes:
1 wire wheel
1 cordless drill
6 pack of favorite beverage

Time required:
1.1/2 hours to take topdeck off
.5 hours to de-foam bottom deck

I was amazed at how easy the top deck was to take off, and how lousy the factory is at sealing off the foam in the rear of the hull.

Note: if you re-foam to install footholds, seal off rear exhaust and around firewall edges and fittings on the firewall well with 3M 5200 or an epoxy glue. Just because there are big gobs of green glue showing, does not mean it's sealed up.

That is where this particular ski was taking on water.:bigeyes:

Believe it or not, there was maybe a cup of water in the foam, and a 1/4 of a beer!:1244: :bigeyes:

There was so little water in it, I was curious to see how long it has been out of the water so I PM'd Chic.

i rode it a few days after i bought it. i think it was september or october of last year.

I will be converting it.

As it was originally a Square Nose Sponge Bob, keeping the topdeck would not have made sense.

It was extremely easy to remove.

I started from the firewall forward. Cut the topdeck off above the bond rail, and then used a 4" chisel and hammer to seperate the top deck and hull. the front was off in probably 30 mins.

I then seperated the bondrail from the firewall around the rear of the ski, and in combination with small cuts from the sawsall, the rear came apart. The trickiest part was where the deck was sealed to the firewall.

1.1/2 hours to remove the entire deck, and that was with a two year old helping.:wink:

i really want to do this project. do you have the top deck yet? i hope to see an in-depth write up on you progress.

An in-depth write up on the build will happen, and no I have not ordered my top deck yet.

There is still much to do.

1- remove old bondrail in nose and glass a new one
2- Dual fiberglass Scupper tunnels
3- rear, side exhaust
4- Grind ribs
5- remove paint on inside of hull (it's painted very badly)
6- finish and paint bottom of hull (the top will be gel coat and the hull will be easier to paint without the top deck on)
