well if its clicking, its in the ebox. thats where the relay is. if its clicking the start stop switch is working. it could still be the relay, but slim possibilities. its the relay, battery, starter or bendix jammed and locking it up.

If you just pulled the engine check all the connections. Loose starter wire, bad ground. Start with the easy things. The things you removed or un hooked.

Happened to me after pulling motor to do midshaft and motor mounts this summer. It was the ground wire.

Check for a good charged battery first.

use some jumper cables and jump from battery ground to someone where on the engine. Just the negitive side of the cables to get a good ground. Then try to start, if it turns over you got a ground issue.

You can also pop the starter positive cable off the starter, hook up a meter to the lug that is now off the starter. when you press the start button you should see 12 volts. If you do then your starter relay is good, and you should look at grounds, starter. If you dont have a good 12 volts then I'd look into poor connections at the starter relay in the ebox or bad positive wires.

well here is what i just did, i started tapping the ebox while hitting the start button hoping it was just the solenoid acting up, i got some interesting high pitched sounds coming from the box and after a few minutes of playing i started smelling burnt metal or overheated wires. i pulled the ebox apart and everything looks good. i placed my hand on the solenoid and hit the start button and the click is def from the solenoid. i tried jumping it already and same result. im thinking it is the solenoid, or like you said maybe a loose wire.

if you jumped the solenoid and it still does it the check the wiring and connections on the starter. tap the starter while hitting the button. as soon as you jumped the solenoid you pretty much diagnosed that it wasnt that.

I jumped the battery. I only tried bypassing the solenoid with a screw driver. With no result. I just hooked up the jumper cable. Same result. Just a heavy clicking noise from the solenoid

Yeah, when you jump the solenoid with a screwdriver, you pretty much straight wire it, constantly supplying batt voltage to the starter. While jumping the solenoid tap the starter housing with something.

Ill give it a shot when I get home from work. Do we have a more specific verdict on what the issue could be. If by bypassing the solenoid and getting no reactiong from the starter would it be safe to say its between the starter and ebox

you can rule out the ebox. period. you can bet its either wiring on the starter, the starter, or for some od reason the bendix is jammed for some reason.

Dont rule out a poor battery cable to the battery side of the starter relay. Check to make sure you have a good 12 volts to the battery post of the starter relay. Then if that is for sure good, I would be convinced you have a bad connection from the relay to the starter, or the starter itself. Maybe the burning you smelt was the positive wire on the starter due to corrision, or high resistance in the starter.

You can spin this engine over by hand right? You did say something about water getting in.

^^ right on. grab the couplers and spin them if possible. that will rule out a jammed up bendix gear or anything goofy like that. when i said rule out the ebox i meant the problem was from the relay to the starter. thanks for catching that davy.

Yes I can spin the coupler no problem. Its not locked up at all. I'm not sure if I have any corrosion everything in the ski is clean. I guess ill pull it again and check all the wires. And thanks guys I appreciate the help. I'm hoping to get it running by Wednesday

Okay so I just pulled the exhaust of and found a loose positive wire on the starter. I tightend it but I'm still getting the same results as before. The solenoid is just clicking away. Any other suggestions? I have no idea what it could be. It's getting aggravating

I hooked e battery directly to the starter and still nothing so I think it's safe to assume its a bad starter? I'm removing it right now, what's a starter going to run me? I was thinking of getting sbt?

well i found the culprit, what i smelled was the wiring in my starter frieing itself. i pulled it out and it smelt like when my step dads truck burnt down. i went ahead and ordered a new starter on ebay. i couldnt even hand turn the starter, i think itIMAG0226.jpgIMAG0227.jpg welded itself.

be careful with ebay starters. ebay anything really. they claim to be good brands but are just replicas of said brand. next time you need parts hit up jetmaniac. hes got what you need.

I did look at jetmaniacs but I honestly don't have 120 for a starter. I have another spare starter that I am having rebuilt just in case.
