tethering a go pro?

Afternoon all!

Im worried about my go pro falling from its mount and sinking to the bottom of the ocean! How does everyone on here tether their go pros to theirselves or their skis?

pics much appreciated so i can get a better idea on how to secure it!

Cheers
Dan

Im making a tether (also looking for ideas) and im going to make it a "life jacket" - i have some closed cell foam to wap it in, and im going to cover it with bright orange liferaft vinyl, held on with bright orange velcro. Then at least if the worst happens it should float and theres a chance of seeing it.

I cut off the wriSt part of the tether, zip tie the cord to the screw handle ont he gopro, then slip knot the other side threw the air vents on my helmet

strong kite string through the hinge under the thumbscrew with a bowline know then tie it off to something like your helmet or a lifevest strap.

This is what ive come up with at the moment...

Once the clasp is down. you cant lift the back of the clip. So ive slid a cabletie underneath the clasp and then used an old lanyard to connect it to the bottom or the top of my pole limit rope hoop.

DO NOT attatch this way! as much as you think it will not unclasp, it will! this is the same way i did mine and it is resting at the bottom of pismo beach! on the bottom of the case where the screw is that tightens down to the black mount, drill a small hole to add a kite string or some cable. that way if it does fall off it will hold and nope open.

i just got mine in the mail today....im kinda disappointed that there is no place on it made to attach a tether to..... i bet they do that on purpose so that we lose them and buy more.

I've thought the exact same thing.

I use like 20 or 30 pound test fishing line with a snap swivel at either end. That way i can loop it around almost anything. On the camera, I go between the gaps where the mount hinges, if that makes any sense...

I have a lot of shark fishing stuff and was going to run some 300 pound mono for a lanyard and could wrap it around a stick and hit it with a heat gun for the curl. I have some #80 florocarbon, but like the thickness of the #300 stuff.

I was debating on just epoxying a place to attach the lanyard.

I bought 1/16" cable at the hardware store, slid the cable through a crimp that has the same size eyelet as the mounting screw on the GoPro.
Then I used the crimp down holds as well as crimping the crimp. On the other end I made a loop.
Bought a 3/16" eye bolt and drilled a hole in my pole bracket (stainless) I slide the crimp through the eye, then through the loop I made.

Sorry I don't have any pics, but I came up with the idea just looking around on Google.
