Testing 95 X2 Starter Solenoid

Ok, I water tested my X2 today and after about 5 minutes of riding I came in to check for things over. I went to restart and all I got was the starter solenoid clicking. So I loaded up and brought it home. I tried another battery and same thing. So I focused in on the starter. I took it out and tried to bench test it and nothing. But after a few tries it worked. Now I reinstalled it and then nothing. No solenoid click nothing. So now I need to test the solenoid but I can't find a schematic online to see what writes to test. Is it the yellow/red or red along with the ground?

you may have switched the battery cables? ive done it... Black to ground and tap the yellow and red stripe to the positive on the battery. you might have to hook up the red wire to positive battery when your testing. I think the red wire sends power to the cdi ect and gets power direct from the positive terminal post the the battery cable hooks to

seeing as that solenoid has a gold case I dont think thats oem. sbt maybe? You gotta make sure when the solenoid is clicked that the "starter" post on the solenoid is sending or reading battery voltage too

The picture I pulled off the internet. My solenoid is original and is oem. The wire colors are the same as mine though. I do have the battery and Starter wire on the correct posts on the ebox.

So I tested the solenoid like you advised and it did click. I reassembled everything and tried again and nothing. S/S switch maybe? It worked fine up until now so I doubt it. I inspected the s/s switch and it looked pristine. No corrosion inside at all. Looked new.

IIRC, you test the solinoid by hooking the red to positive and the black to negative. That should make it click. You then ohm the 2 posts. There are videos on youtube.

Check if the yellow with red stripe from the ss switch has power coming from it when you push the button. Also check the red I think color going to the ss switch to check for supply voltage. Ebox ground issue maybe?

Check to see if you have 12 volts from the short red wire right off your solenoid with the battery hooked up. Check your motor ground too

I did hook the red to pos and nothing. However yellow/red to pos and I got a click. When I reinstalled and buttoned everything up I got nothing. Do you have a link? Thanks be searched but didn't find anything relevant.

The click engages it but once its engaged you need to check the terminals to ensure current flows through whil3 engaged. It can click but not let it flow to the starter. Not that its your issue but you asked how to test that part.

I usually just jump it with a screw driver but that can cause fire or explosion.
