I don't have the time to install holds and turf until this winter, so I want to just cut into the tray sides just enough to hook my toes in a little. There is waterlogged foam in there now so will it really hurt anything if I just carve a little foam out? Probably 4 inches long, 2 inches high, and 1.5 inches deep, I have screws on the back so I can let the water out on when its on the trailer.

Just go ahead in install some footholds, you can do them in 3 nights after work.

Monday - cut out footholds and grind out the foam
Tuesday - glue in footholds and glass
Wednesday - Foam, glass over holes and turf, even if you only turf at the foothold location -ie a patch of turf..........

I think there might be some structural issues involved if you did glass over the cutout area. For one you may end up breaking the side when your toes are hooked in and your trying to left with your feet.

I was considering footholds too. Although, the cost and tearing apart my jet ski mid-season in Michigan didn't make sence to me at this time. I ended up adding one foot strap at the rear right, and may just stick with it. It took me 2 nights and aprox 3 hours total. It's cheap and effective. I stay planted in the tray on high straight wave/wake jumps and excellent with nose stabs! You'll have to figure out your own fore-aft foot placement on the lake, before starting the job. :brap:

Worthless if your Andrew that is. Haha

Foot holds are nice for Back Flips and no handers... not that I can do either of those.

well yea they are great if you like doing barhumps mid air...you basically cant have good style and jump in the footwells in the surf..they make everythoing look silly and nose high imo

how does blowsion get off chargin so much for the rec footholds. are they that hard to make?

no just cut the glass and shape the foam..then just lay glass on the top..you only need to do one side for your back foot

i got footholds in the back and a strap up front. my front foot is almost always in the strap and my back foot is only in the foothold maybe 15% of the time. i could get away with just having one front foot strap.
but like wydopen said, just cut out a small recess along the length of the tray for your toes to go in.

well i meant so you can mount your rear strap closer to the gunwhales..the only time i take my feet out of the straps is when im resting and just going slow or when you almost fall and have to recover it a weird way..
