Tell Me if I correctly understanding the "Hood Mod"

I have read everything I can find and looked at every picture I can see and I just want to make sure I understand this fully before I cut holes in my hood.
I have a 95 superjet
-First you remove the stock liner, I got it.
-Now, the air vents on the top on the hood and the 6 little ones up front are sealed off.
-Then two holes/ovals are cut in the back of the hood just above the controls at the front of the foot tray and these are cut to allow air into the engine compartment because we have essentially prevented that from happending by closing off the other vents.
-After that a liner is made that glues to the hood to close those holes off from the engine compartment.
-Then two holes are cut in the hood liner and two hoses are run up into the hood liner protruding about an 1" to 1 1/2" into the liner so that water that comes in from the vent holes in the back would have to be over 1 1/2" deep in order to spill over the edge of the tubes and down into the engine compartment.
-I am assuming these two tubes should be located in a specific spot, maybe one near the air filter but not directly on top of it and the other just anywhere?
-lastly I have seen where two holes are cut in the very bottom back corners of the hood to let water run back out of the hood.
-So, the two big holes in back of the hood let air in and water out and the two smaller ones in the corner are also to help let water out?
I would appreciate it if someone could tell me if I have understood this all correctly or if I am going to sink my superjet. Thanks guys.

good question because I have always been a lil unclear on the mod exactly. So the vent holes in the back, do they have to be exactly flush with the top of the new liner so water doesnt get stuck in the liner?

I think that is what the two smaller holes in the bottom corners are for, to let that extra little bit out that may not come out the bigger vent holes. I THINK

I would say you pretty much have it. I dropped two 2" ribbed pool hoses from the rear part of the liner and a single 2" pool hose from the front right (battery) side of the liner.

Also, because I made my line dive down in the front, I beefed up the hood hook mounting area on the hood. It's pretty flimsy there without the oem liner to help support it.

I made my liner to glue not only around the inside parimeter of the hood but also to the center hump section to help tie the entire hood together for added rigidity.

and yes, the bottom two smaller holes (which I cut about 1" in diameter) let the water drain. My two larger holes are above the bottom of the liner.

Keep in mind, everyone does theirs slightly different... but you are on the right track.

I'll take a few inside finished pics tonight when i get home.

I did a whole write uo on this in the tech faq section. the 2 big holes are to let air in, not water, but if water DOES get in, that is why the hoses stick up a bit, to prevent them from entering the engine compartment.

The 2 small holes in the corner of the hood are also to let air in. The hoses I placed wherever they would go, one above the battery because It ws the only spot I had room with my original dry pipe, and one that went in front of the pipe, over the gas tank. I have had no problems with my air intake, and it styas VERY dry inside.

And since you are going to all that trouble you might as well cut some hand holds in the hood with buckets under them.
I used some aluminum on the front of my hood to re-enforce the hook area but I'm sure glass would work.

Than glue or glass in the new liner and you are done.

im doing this mod on a SN hood for my wifes 90 sj now.

so far, ive:

cut out the liner

filled in the top breather 'vents'

cut the little dip on the top where you put your fingers to remove the hood and filled

this has taken about 2 hours so far.

if i have time today, im going to:

cut out 2 handholds (in front of where the vents were)

install 2 texilium handcups

fill in 6 front holes

install liner made of a thin fiberglass/gelcoat sheet then reinforce.

ill post all the progress pics when im done.

How come you got rid of the hole on top to remove your hood? I like to finger my hood:smile:
