SXR SXR Won't Start - Help Please! update: NOW WORKING!

My '07 SXR will not start. I haven't ridden it in 4 months and it was a bit hard to start my past couple of outings when first arriving at the lake.

The battery is fully charged. Cranks strong. Lanyard is on.

Both spark plugs appear to have a strong spark.

I put new gas/oil in the tank (it had maybe 1 gallon in it for 4 months, that is still in there).

I'm almost positive it isn't getting any fuel. Is it a gummed up carb? Bad fuel pump? Something else? How do I check these things and which should I look at first?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't afford to go to the shop right now! Thanks!

Pour a little premix down the carb. If it fires up then dies, it is fuel related. If it is fuel related, you might have some gummed up carbs. Pull the carbs and check the fuel filters in the carbs. Also make sure that your carbs are actually pulling fuel form the tank.

Okay, I took off the air box / flame arrestor thing. I dumped a bit of premix directly into each carb, closed it back up and tried starting. I got nothing.

Then I took the air box off again and held the green button while carefully peeking down the carbs (with safety glasses on) and didn't see anything whatsoever coming out. Shouldn't fuel squirt out to where I can see it?

So I'm completely stumped now! Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick reply. I see you're in phx too. I usually go out to Saguaro Lake when I ride.

I ride Saguaro quite a bit. Pull the full line off and see if it is dry. You can also pull the return to see if fuel is pumping through the carbs. I would pull the back side plate of your carbs off and verify the filters in there are not clogged. Also check the drop down tubes in your fuel tank. Make sure the screen filters on them are not clogged.

check the filters in the tank too, also check the on/rereserve valve, also use a small bottle with hole in lid to drip the fuel while cranking the motor it should fire .

I just pulled off both fuel hoses. They both had fuel come out of them. Does that mean the fuel is getting to the carbs okay or should I still check the fuel pump filters?

I will try the drip thing now. If that doesn't start it I'll go back to the plugs again...

Allright - I did the bottle with the little hole, dripped it in bit by bit as I was cranking and after a couple of seconds it started and kept running no problem!

So maybe just needed to be primed (really well) after sitting for 4 months?

I'm going to try to get to the lake early next week and rip it up!
