SXR SXR waterbox troubles

Hey guys, semi-noob here

I need some opinions,

I modded my stock SXR waterbox for more flow. more flow is always good right??? well...not treally!

I drilled 1 inch holes in a few strategic places (like the PWC.com SXR waterbox mod) I put it in my SXR... and now it runs like crap. I guess the carbs need to be re-tuned for the new waterbox but i don't know how to do it. Someone said that the jetting needs to be changed. but does a waterbox make that big a difference to the jetting???

Symptoms:

Starts and idles. I think the idle is a little higher than before waterbox mod. (it pulls a little without me touching the throttle)

When throttle applied, ski keeps going at idle speed and engine does not accelarate, sounds like its bogging down.

Previous setup was:

stock '04 SXR 800 with Fatory Dry pipe setup.
( Mikuni carbs and jetting tuned for the Dry Pipe )

any tips would be appreciated

You are going to have to jet up/ drop popoff or you can make up insert to go in the stinger to give some more backpressure in the pipe. Modding the waterbox is for a ported motor when there is detonation, I went with a single 35mm hole and it works well.

thanks for the reply,

How tough is it to tune the ski with jeting? I hear only experienced people can do it?

if I get it re-jetted, will this mostly stock SXR run same/better with the said waterbox and jetting ?

Or should i just forget it and get a stock waterox? (to go back to the previous setup)
