sxr cylinder keeps loosening up

hey my friend has twice now had the six bolts back out on the cylinders. I know he put a ton of red loctite on it. it has done it since changing from the stock head to the ADA. due to the tight confines of the new girdled bolts I think he just went to what he felt was tight and not used a torque wrench. Is there more torque required due to more compression or do I just need to watch over and make sure he uses the torque wrench?

i know they require additional tork as they are a larger bolt. guessing in the 80ft lb range, he should'nt have to loctite those, i've never had them come loose on me before. but anyway, make sure the threads are clean and dry before appling it, if they have any oil on them it won't work properly..

80lb seems way overkill but i may be wrong. I think the stock bolts go on with 18-22 lbs Check with ADA for the right specs. You dont want to strip the threads in your engine.

This time for sure I will make sure he at least gets the stock torque- but I think he still has the instructions so we will check it. but I just thought maybe someone else had this happen.

yes the cylinder base bolts, the studs are longer and have the special nuts that the head girdle studs go into. all six are coming loose and he has to change the base gasket again. the prob is you can't really get a socket and extension on to get the torque wrench on it. I have a crowsfoot- but I just think it will loose some of the torque reading.

WD I thought the red was a tighter bond like for something you don't want to come loose. blue is for things that will be off more regular like?

I have been to A.R.P. site many times and full understand the wear and stress that the hardware takes on lots of engines and still I have rarely changed the hardware. cheap? yes. so far I haven't last any motors. so we will keep trying our luck.:cheer: thanks for the "heads" up. get it ? he he he.

Did he tighten the long studs that go from the cylinder base to the head? You have tighten them with a stud tool or double nut it to tighten it you can't just srew the stud into the base then put the nut on and tighten it because that will throw the torque setting way off and the studs will come loose.
