Surf riding near or around myrtle beach?????

Cousin is planning a house rental and vacation for myrtle beach sometime in mid summer and i would really love to take place but just cant stand to go that far to the beach with out being able to ride the surf..... So i was wondering is there any good spots that are semi legal to ride surf around myrtle?

Cherry grove inlet in north Myrtle beach is where I used to ride. There is a boat ramp and pretty decent waves sometimes. Do some exploring in the grass flats on the way out, there are some really cool twisty creeks back there.
