Superjet wide tray footholds toe-thru?

Hey guys - I saw a (2006?) WF vid that showed some footholds mounted with the toe-through (poking out the side of the ski). I'm assuming this was done in conjunction with a wide tray. Any one done/doing this to their ski and why or why not?

if your feet end up wider than your sholder spread that may hurt you. who knows. That the only one I have seen like that. Do not really see any advantage.

I widened my tray, the back side of the foothold is the inside wall of the gunwale. It has no foam inbetween. The gunwales are 1/2 their original width.

Clay Cullen was the first to do this. There are about 8 local guys who have it done now. I see no need to go all the way through the hull. Joe Kennys boats were widened as well, but he left the top of the rail same width. Look at boarbmember #0 's pics, he made a mold for a wide tray.

Some pics of mine.

No. My exhaust is un-moved. The glass on the right side did have to go around the tube a little. I cut/sanded the underpad so that the right side is level.

I'm helping my buddy Dave do his tray right now. He removed his exhaust tube and had a welder to a bend so that tube is totally out of the way.
This was on my reccomendation. If I pull mine apart again I will move the exhaust, but it is not necessary.
I'll try to get some pics of my buddy's before we pour the foam.

Make sure you post those pics and measurements. What about the structural stability ? Are the sides sill stable enough to with stand hard landings on the side ? With no foam in the sides this really gives you options on making some adjustable foot holds. You could fab some holds out of Aluminum or glass and bolt them on. You could also slot the foot hold for fore and aft movement. Great thread keep us posted .
