superjet starting problems

SXR-FOREVER

Finally Flippin
K so my bro's sj stopped running on the lake, wouldn't turn over so we towed it in. Took the hood off and hit the start button and there was a knocking noise coming from the electrical box. Bendix is not frozen because I can turn the motor over via the coupler. I have no idea whats wrong! Too low on money to bring it to a shop to have it looked at and I know nothing about the electrical on these.

Oh and it has basically a brand new starter and MSD (<10 hours on them)

Any advice or tips on what to check would be awesome!

Thanks in advance,
Trevor

Non-flammable?Dare me?
Put a test lamp between the pos. term. on the starter and a good ground while hitting the start button. If the lamp illuminates, the problem may be either the starter or the ground lug on the rear of the starter.

You're hearing the relay click over.

ALWAYS CHECK YOUR WIRING FIRST
then jump the terminals with a screwdriver. If it doesn't turn over, you're looking at a new starter (and the starter may even still spin when hooked up to jumper cables straight to it). If it turns over, you're looking at a new relay.

You might also consider replacing the stock electrical box screws with much easier ones with which to work.

Doing some thread searching. I'm getting a loud click from my relay with no starter/bendix action. From doing some reading it sounds like I need to jump the relay. I've got a used, analog TL. From the MSD schematic it all looks to be wired correctly. The starter worked when I put the ski up this past fall. My batt is brand new with a fresh charge and the brain lights up when the PTO is turned by hand. Any special trick to jumping a relay? Is there anywhere else I should be looking for probs? Thanks boys.

As far as i can tell my start/stop switch is cool too. Can I just use a 12 or 14 gauge wire to jump the relay? I see where a screwdrive has been used, but it won't make the connects for me on this MSD setup for my TL. Someone Call 911.

I've had this happen to me twice and BOTH times it was a bad connection at the battery terminals. Everything looked and felt tight, but after tearing apart half the electrical system, I finally decided to try the battery cables. It fired right up.
